etnarp
I had this problem occur on my 98 gs300 about the 2nd year I had it and was repaired under warranty. Sorry to say, but the fix was replacement of the steering column assembly. I suspect your looking at several hundred dollars. Hope I'm wrong- and good luck
JPI
To fix this problem you have to replace the entire steering column. Retail on this unit is $1,200 and labor is another $600.
BennyBlanco
I have the same problem with my steering column. I also have the pre-driven certified warranty. Will the warranty cover that problem? Thanks, Ben
Dennis
My column is groaning too - a 93 GS300 - and only when it's really warm outside. What's wrong with just letting it groan? Dennis
JPI
Change the steering column tube and shims will fix this problem. But earlier model doesn't allow you to do this. Only on Ls430. I'm sure certified warr will cover this. JPI

What's wrong with just letting it groan?Dennis Had exactly the same problem on mine - only when very warm. Gotta be a dry bearing or something I guess.
