dan83 Posted March 8, 2005 Posted March 8, 2005 hey all this is my first post, just got a sc 400 yesterday. here are the specs and problems so far: 1992 lexus sc 400 129k timing belt changed at 67k ( but in 1997 i might add) tires are worn badly MOST SEVERE PROBLEM: Shakes BADLY at 70-75, when not accelerating, let me explain. It does NOT vibrate when revving in neutral when not moving, does not vibrate when accelerating hard from 0-85, BUT, if i take my foot off the pedal from 65-75, the car starts shaking quite badly, and the shifter rocks backand forth maybe 1/2" 1". Any advice? I am suspecting either C/V joints in the rear axles, transmission mount, less likely but possibly engine mount, and/or drive shaft C/V joint? HELP! thanks a lot dan also, where is the best place to buy parts like these?
Sluggo Posted March 21, 2005 Posted March 21, 2005 I had a coast-down vibration problem between 35 and 30 mph. Turned out to be a tranny mount, which is apparently a not-uncommon problem in these cars. PS Mine also a 92 SC400 with about 130k on the clock.
Orlousy Posted March 21, 2005 Posted March 21, 2005 sounds just like the problem I have been having, I actually have an appt scheduled for later this week to look at it. My problem occurs right around 40 mph, when I am hard on the gas, I notice nothing, but only when I real soft on the gas, that's when I notice it. Very annyoing!! I was thinking it might CV joints as well, but my understanding is that a rear wheel drive car doesn't have CV joints. In any case, once I take my car in, I will post what the problem was.
JamesN Posted March 23, 2005 Posted March 23, 2005 It could be the control arm bushing. Our LCB usually give out at 130K miles. So check for that.
