gorgouslex Posted February 1, 2005 Share Posted February 1, 2005 I have a 99'rx300 that has been making this loud driving noise. I took the car to the dealer (Tom Woods, Indpls, IN) about 8 months ago and they said it was the terrain tires. Now the noise is excessive and only when the car in is motion on the drivers side with a clicking sound. I called the dealership today, and they said it could possibly be a rock in the tire, or the the wheel barrings. I bought it from a luxury car dealer 2 1/2 years ago who had the dealer replace the engine, and change the timing belt, because the car was smoking @ 56,000 miles. The car has had all scheduled oil changes, and has not had any 80,000 or 90,000 maintenance done to it. It has over 97,000 miles on it now. Has anyone had to replace the wheel barrings and if so, how much did it cost? Oh, also my mother-in-law drove the car around christmas time with the emergency brake on for about 12 miles. :( :cries: Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Booyah Posted February 2, 2005 Share Posted February 2, 2005 It doesnt sound like your wheel bearings plus its way to soon for those to go bad. Could be the universal joing gone bad...Torn rubber boot and allowed all the grease to escape and ruin the joint. Could be the universal joing gone bad...Torn rubber boot and allowed all the grease to escape and ruin the joint.I would pull the tire off and check for a nail or screw first...also while the tire is off you can look at the CV boot ← ehhhh - that would be the constant velocity joint - not the u-joint. And yes - this is a good suspect. Does it click more when you turn the wheel and roll? Have any vibration? If the CV boot is damaged the joint is likely wasted.
