A/c Problems

Hello

I wish i found this site earlier would have saved me trouble and helped me choosing my LS400.

I just imported a 89/90 Celsior (LS400) From Japan, 60000km but the a/c doesn't work. Thinking it only requires a regas i took it to a shop and they did it.

They then found a leak in the compressor, they said its only a seal so they fixed that.

Then they said my evaporator was gone, i needed another one. Went to a spare parts place and found one, put it in and this one was no good idea.

So after $900AUD, im still left with no a/c and feeling really disgusted at the fact i have to pay for something that didn't get fixed.

My question is how much do i have to pay to get cold air? Is there a known problem with the MK1 Ls400 a/c? Is there a known problem of a failure of the evaporator? Even an aircon specialist can't fix this i guess this has to be a dealer job.

Thanks in advance

I had to replace just about every part in the system to get my A/C to work....it cost a ton. I can't remember the exact problem but I do remember my mechanic telling me there was a major clog in one of the parts.

Ok here's the go, i got the car back. It was cold but i just heard the hissing from the engine bay behind the evaporator again. This a/c place really sucks even if i take it back for them to get it fixed they'd screw something else up i bet.

Anyways my question is there is a lot of water drops (condensation?) in the engine bay in front of the firewall. This is a problem right and is not normal? What can be my problem.

Hi Wilfred,

The water drops are normal for the A/C system. This is coming out of the drain tube in the front near the firewall correct? Now, as for the hissing, I don't know what that could be.
