Bussey Posted January 14, 2005 Posted January 14, 2005 I am experiencing a loud whistle on my RX 300 at initial morning startup. It lasts for 3-4 seconds and then disappears. Since that is the only time it occurs it is impossible to trace. I have checked for loose hoses, etc, and wonder if it could be belt or water pump noise. I have 102K miles and have had all required service done at Lexus but reside 2 1/2 houes from the nearest dealer. Any suggestions?
RX in NC Posted January 14, 2005 Posted January 14, 2005 What you're describing is typically caused by a worn-out belt. If you still have your original Alternator/AC belt on your vehicle, you can almost bet that it's the culprit behind your start-up noises.
Bussey Posted January 16, 2005 Author Posted January 16, 2005 Based on your suggestion I checked my service tickets and all belts have been replaced. I use belt dressing (spray) on my kitcar (Pinto 4 cyl) which makes noise on start up so I sprayed alittle on the Lexus AC/ALT belt and haven't had the nose since. Thanks a million!
