AjayDugar Posted December 20, 2004 Posted December 20, 2004 I have 1995 Es300 with about 115000, original owner. Recently when I turn the heat on, the car has a funny burning smell. I opened up the hood but no smell. This happens only when I turn the heat on. Can you guys shed some light on this. Thanks in advance

Thats the seal between the engine and transaxle. it goes out around 80-100K from what i have heard (if at all). When it does, it drips oil onto the exhaust which happens to be right below it. And the heater sucks air in fromt he engine bay. Are you also getting smoke out of the wheel well on the left hand side? cost to replace: ~$800 USD Parts and Labor, give or take. Hope this helps. :)
steviej Posted December 21, 2004 Posted December 21, 2004 more commonly is a valve cover gasket leak. same idea as Army's post. look at the seam between you cylinder head and the valve cover gasket. See if it is moist or if you can detect a trail of oil. Both front and rear valve covers will leak onto the exhaust manifold. steviej
