I just recently purchased an awsome 1998 SC400 with 50K miles :D...I am very happy with it...I want to take OEM GS400 17" rims and replace the OEM SC400 16" rims....My question is has anybody out there done this to a SC?....and I am also looking for some suggestions/comments on my idea?...Good or Bad...

Thanks...

Click the link below to my Cardomain site.... '92 Black SC400, with 17" GS400 rims. I personally really like the combo, and I wouldn't put any bigger rim on the SC400.

Thanks for the pics Aaron...I agree with you...I love the combo...your SC400 looks awsome with those rims!!!...

What size tires do you have on them?...

Those are kumho ecsta supra 712s.... 235/45R17 on all 4 corners.

They were on the car when I bought it though, I think I'll go with Yokohama AVS Sports next spring. Likely 245/45R17 fronts and 265/40R17 rear if I can stretch them onto those rims without too much bulge. We'll see... maybe 245/45 on all 4 corners

How is the ride quality on the 45's?...I don't want to stiffen the ride to much going from the stock 55's to 45's....

I was going to try to get 235/50's on all four corners...What do ya think?...

Ride quality is a little more harsh. These tires were on the GS400 the rims came off, and that's why they're not the correct size for the SC400. I will get proper 245/45s or equivalent when I change them.

There is a very noticable difference between my SC and my moms LS w/ stock rubber. But that might also be due to my bad front lower a-arm bushings.

I wouldn't hesitate to get 17" rims and rubber, but I'd probably steer clear of 18" and larger due to the roads where I live (not so good).

Hope this helps,

Aaron

235/50/17 is the correct size for correct speedometer. Not too large a selection tho, I used Falken 512's, look really nice.

Actually you are incorrect...Per my research 225/50/17 would be the closet is diameter and correct speedometer to match the original 225/55/16...

^^^ Technically speaking a 245/45R17 is closer to correct.

A 225/55R16 is 647.5mm theoretical overall height.

225/50R17 is 650.0 mm

245/45R17 is 645.5 mm

I think it's safe to say that .5mm isn't exactly noticable though. :D
