My air conditioning in my 2005 gx 470 stopped working. I injected dye and charged the system. I troubleshooted the issue to a failed ac evaporator. I disassembled and removed the dash, components, and ac white box. I replaced the ac evaporator and re installed everything. I doubled checked that all connections were connected and good.

I am now having the following symptoms:

1. I cannot shift out of park into gear without using the shift bypass button.

2. When I press on the brake pedal I am getting 4 lights on the dash, the green down hill truck light, Vsc trac , Vsc off , and amber truck light with squiggly lines.

3. I am getting the following codes in techstream air suspension c1777 and srs airbag b1152. I also have a brake , abs, and airbag light illuminated on the dash.

I have a bunch that all of these are interrelated in some manner. Any trouble shooting advice is appreciated.

Hipshot is brake switch handles a lot of these and/or there is a connector still dangling somewhere in that system or is connected into the wrong control unit(?)

I checked the brake switch, I am getting a brake light activation. I took it out of the mount and reinstalled, seems fine. Maybe replace ? I have gone over every connection and everything is connected properly. It doesn't appear anything can be connected wrong since connectors are sized for their respective ports.

CoPilot answer:

It sounds like your Lexus GX 470 is experiencing multiple interconnected issues after the AC evaporator replacement. Here are some troubleshooting steps to consider:

1. Shift Lock Issue

  • The inability to shift out of park without using the bypass button is often related to the brake light switch or a blown fuse. Since you're also seeing brake-related warning lights, check the brake light fuse and ensure the brake light switch is functioning properly.
  • If the brake light switch is faulty, the system may not recognize that the brake pedal is being pressed, preventing the shift lock solenoid from disengaging.

2. Brake Pedal Warning Lights

  • The VSC TRAC, VSC OFF, downhill assist, and traction control warning lights appearing when pressing the brake pedal suggest a possible issue with the ABS system, wheel speed sensors, or brake booster.
  • Since you removed and reinstalled the dashboard, double-check that all ground connections and ABS module connectors are properly seated.
  • Inspect the ABS fuse and relays to ensure they are intact.

3. Diagnostic Codes (C1777 & B1152)

  • C1777 (Air Suspension): This code is related to the height control system. It could be caused by a disconnected or damaged height sensor, wiring issue, or a problem with the air suspension ECU.
  • B1152 (SRS Airbag): This code indicates an issue with the airbag system, possibly due to a loose or disconnected airbag module connector. Since you removed the dashboard, verify that all airbag wiring harnesses are securely connected.

Next Steps

  1. Check all fuses related to the brake system, ABS, air suspension, and airbag.
  2. Inspect wiring connections for the ABS module, airbag system, and height control sensors.
  3. Scan for additional codes using Techstream to see if any new errors appear.
  4. Test the brake light switch to confirm it is functioning correctly.
  5. Reset the ECU by disconnecting the battery for 10-15 minutes, then reconnecting it.
