Help Picking Out Lowering Springs

Could I get some recommendations on some lowering springs for my '99 GS300? I want a 1.25" to 1.5" drop. I've got 17" wheels. I'm not really too concerned about performance, more about looks at the moment. However, I don't want a decrease in ride quality. I haven't been able to get a solid answer on the L-Tuned springs drop. One person says it's a 1.25" drop and others say an approx. 20mm drop which is less than an inch.

What would you guys recommend for a little over or less than $300? Does anyone have any idea about the typical labor costs?

I was quoted $200 for by a friends shop. I ended up doing it with a friend and it only took 4 hrs for all 4 springs and all the correct tools being handy.

I bought the Eibach for $240 and they dropped the car about 1 inch. They give a nearly stock ride quality in a straight line and on normal street imperfections.

Brake dive was reduced, and body roll slightly reduced in cornering. They are progressive rate springs.

I thought that I had heard that the L-Tuned springs were a 1.25" drop also. You might want to ask other L-Tuned owners, or check their website. That guy you checked with might not be the norm.

I've heard that H&R springs are low, like the 1.25" - 1.5" you're looking for, but they are also pretty firm.

Hope you have saved the cash to get new shocks too!

1.25 is about right for the L-Tuned springs. The Eibachs BA_GS400 has are also pretty good. Beyond this, the Daizens and Espelir give very good ride quality with some performance too. The only thing with these are that they have a more aggressive drop. 1.7" - 1.9" is the range that comes to mind.

tanabe makes a lowering spring that they say will drop 1.25 to 1.50 without changeing the stock ride also you must use there bumper stopper with the springs the ones you want nf210. I will be putting them on my 04 gs within 2 weeks.Search the web you should pay around 250 inc bumper stoppers. email me if you can't find them,leonescu@aol.com

I've decided to go with the Tanabe NF210 too. I think I'm going to go with the L-tuned shocks. I've gotten some quotes on labor for installation of springs, shocks, and an alignment for $405.00. How does this compare to labor charges you guys have heard?

I would personally get the alignment done a little while after the install so they get time to settle in. Maybe after 100 miles or a week.

I hate to disagree but when I put my l-tuned on I didnt want to pay the bucks for an allignment at the dealer and went to 3 shops and none could get it right I finally took it to the dealer and they got it first try. I didnt have an allignment for about 2 weeks and it screwed my tires all up.Once you start an uneven wear pattern even if you fix the allignment they will continue to wear the same.

for install and alignment i was quoted 400 dollars at the dealership for my corolla. but you can if you can find some tuner shops around they will do it for alot cheaper

Ok then I would advise the alignment is further checked after a short bedding in period (don't cost much to get it checked, it's the adjustment the takes the time/money). I guess it depends how careful the fitters are, if you mark the positions of the adjusters and put it back how it was it won't be too far out. I installed Eibachs on my old GS300 and after a month got the alignment checked and everything was still within tolerance.

Don't understand why you had problems getting your alignment sorted out at places other than your dealer.

I had problems getting the alignment done at places other than the dealer because they were unfamiliar w/the set-up or were using outdated equipment. I would agree the thing to do is get it alligned and then take it back after a month and have it checked.I just had this done at the dealer and they checked it free of charge.

just to let you know they used my orig bumper stoppers they say if the car does not bottom out dont worry about it however they can't get my camber right it maxed out on adjustment and nobody makes a camber kit for the gs tomorrow it is going to an alignment specialist who said he can do it you just have to be creative.
