Does anyone on this forum have experience requesting assistance with a known issue beyond the manufacturer's warranty period? I have a 2018 Lexus GX460 that is exhibiting a phenomenon commonly (as I recently learned from my local dealer) called the “GX Lean.” Although my vehicle is now outside its original warranty period, I only recently became aware that this is a recognized defect that Lexus has previously addressed under warranty for other affected owners.

Since I bought my GX460 slightly used (~20k miles, I think), I have occasionally noticed what seemed to be a slight lean, but I thought it must be my imagination, a paralax affect or soomething similar, basically a visual distortion from the vehicle’s concave hood shape. I just happened to mention it to my Lexus Service Manager recently and learned that the lean is a documented, systemic issue, rather than a matter of perception. Unfortunately, by the time I learned it is an actual problem, my warranty had expired.

I've always been diligent in maintaining my GX460 according to Lexus’ standards.. I plan to request that Lexus consider extending goodwill assistance in addressing this defect, given that it is a known condition that predates my warranty expiration and one I could not reasonably have diagnosed sooner.

I'd appreciate any advice from anyone that has addressed this condition with Lexus.

No specific experience with this issue, but that's not really necessary. You've said all of the good words for these circumstances. Goodwill, warranty extensions, etc.

It all comes down to what the original effort was called (campaign, bulletin, recall, advisory,) if the dealership has enough space in their "goodwill" bucket with their warranty reps, and if they're willing to help you. The latter is generally 100% based on your presentation with them (don't walk in with an attitude) and having a good timeline of ownership (before and after your purchase) support in the dealer network.

Catch flies with honey, my man.

Great advice, McBrian. I'll do some research on what genre the non-recall recall was. I've only had it serviced by my local dealer and have a good relationship with them. Hopefully that will help. Thanks again...

You seem to be in a good spot. Play the game with a cool head.
