SaltwaterFishing Posted March 17 Posted March 17 Over the weekend, while changing out my oil on my NX300, I also attempted to rotate the tires. While trying to loosen the lug nuts, 2 of them snapped off and had the studs still in the nuts. I have never seen this happen before on any cars, and needless to say, I was in a state of shock. My other 2 cars, a 370Z and GTR, I am constantly swapping out wheels, but the studs have always held up. The NX is my first Lexus, and is this common for Toyota/Lexus?
rich1068 Posted March 17 Posted March 17 Never had it on any of mine. Did you tighten them yourself or was it an over enthusiastic tyre place?
SaltwaterFishing Posted March 17 Author Posted March 17 I did it myself, and torqued to 75 ft/lbs using the star pattern. I also ensured the lug nuts were properly seated before torquing down. While torquing, I also gradually incrementally tightened them, meaning I would initially torque down to 30 on each nut, then 50, and then finally 75.
rich1068 Posted March 18 Posted March 18 A Google suggests that is the correct torque. Later NX seems to be higher rather than lower. But you knew that. All older than your NX but I've had IS300, RX400h, GS300, LS400 and GS450h and never had this issue. Had it on a Subaru but that was only because a tyre place cross threaded with a rattle gun. Unless of course you actually are going saltwater fishing in your Lexus?
