bobhallpsu Posted January 20 Posted January 20 (edited) I noticed a rattling in the rear of my 2018 ES 350 and I found that the heat shield above the passenger side muffler had come loose. While trying to remove the screw from the loose section, the entire heat shield came off. Has anyone else removed that heat shield and not replaced it, or does anyone know what kind of issues I’ll have if I don’t replace it? Edited January 20 by bobhallpsu

Quote It's not uncommon for heat shields to come loose on vehicles, including the 2018 Lexus ES350. The heat shield is there to protect sensitive components from the extreme heat of the exhaust system. If you choose not to replace it, you might face a few issues: Increased Fire Risk: Without the heat shield, flammable debris under your car could ignite. Component Damage: Sensitive parts like brake lines, fuel lines, and sensors could be damaged by the excessive heat. Passenger Comfort: The heat shield helps keep the cabin cooler by insulating the floor and transmission tunnel. Without it, the cabin could become uncomfortably hot. Corrosion: Heat shields protect exhaust components from weather and road chemicals, reducing corrosion. Without it, corrosion could occur more quickly. Performance Issues: Removing the heat shield can cause exhaust components to cool faster, potentially affecting engine performance and fuel economy. It's generally recommended to replace the heat shield to avoid these issues
