Greetings everyone, first post.

I am an enthusiast who has owned a lot of cars from virtually every manufacturer.

I currently have occasion to shop for a new road car.

In essence a reliable, durable, reasonably efficient and comfortable highway car that can soak up lots of miles. (40-50k/yr)

Since the depreciation curve and life expectancy of Lexus is better than almost anything else these days, It seems a good choice.

My tastes tend to favor large rear wheel drive V8 powered sedans, but based on my research and my requirements for this particular car, an LS doesn’t seem to fit.  The 460s seem to be a little more finicky and maintenance heavy than the previous 430s and 400s.

I would consider an older 400 or 430, but it seems to find nice one the money is about the same as a 2013 to 2015 ES350/300h, which I am hoping delivers a similar if not equal ride quality and with greater efficiency.

I do like the rear wheel drive layout of the GS, but for this particular application, I wonder if the ES may be a better choice.

Would love to hear from anyone that owns both, as well Anyone who perhaps may be using the cars similarly and what their experience has been.

In the past, I have enjoyed Lincoln Town Cars, and Cadillac Devilles for a similar purpose.  Since the Lincolns are Rear Drive and the Cadillacs Front, and I have been happy with both, for this application either will do.

I don’t need this car to check all boxes as I have others, but what I want is a similar ride quality and slightly improved driving experience.

Also, curious if anyone has the 300h and what they think of it. Also curious as to real world MPG numbers.

Theoretical 40 miles per gallon in something that rides like a Cadillac is an intriguing concept.

GX/LX

Secondarily, I am curious about ownership experiences between the GX/LX for frequency of unscheduled repair, and ride quality as I will probably end up with one of those eventually too, for other uses.

I’ve always favored Suburbans for the long wheelbase, interior room, and durability, but the cylinder deactivation and related problems unfortunately eliminates all of the newer ones for me.

Cutting the life of the engine in half for a minimal increase in fuel economy is not a good trade in my opinion, give me a bulletproof Toyota V8 instead.

Thank you all for your input, I look forward learning your experiences!

My sister has a 1-2 year-old ES300H (based upon my recommendation) and absolutely loves it. Her commute is about one hour each way. Fuel mileage is fantastic. I've driven this and a couple of ES350s and found the ride to be about as good as it gets if you want a silky-smooth ride and very quiet interior. Consumer Reports magazine rates the ES300h very highly with better than average reliability. I think its range is 550 miles to a tank.
