Just bought a 2025 Lexus RX350h Premium and was given an hour long familiarization of most of the controls and displays -- BUT there's a small 1/2" high 4"-5" long display mounted directly on the top of the steering column behind the steering wheel that I cannot find any information about. Looks link a 20th Century transmission display (R P N D etc.) but it's blank -- no information appears when the engine is On or Off. What is it called and what does it do? (So far it appears to be dormant.) I texted the sales person but he's not in this week, so no help there, and the Owner's manual doesn't even  show this display in any graphic images. TIA, all replies are appreciated!

Not familiar with the new RX but I'd guess it's the sensor that monitors your face/eyes to check you're paying attention to the road ahead and haven't nodded off.

Test drove the Subaru Solterra (Toyota bZ4X) a few months ago and this had one. Couldn't work out why the car was forever beeping at me. Turns out if you spend too long looking right or left at a junction or hold the steering wheel in a way that obscures the sensor then the car nags you.

Richard,

Thanks for your reply. As it happens I found a YouTube tutorial that explained it as a "Driver attention monitor" (aka Driver Monitor or "face authentication system"--which is explained on pp175-176.

Thanks for your reply. As it happens I found a YouTube tutorial that explained it as a "Driver attention monitor" (aka Driver Monitor or "face authentication system"--which is explained on pp175-176 in the 2025 RX 350 Owners Manual (but there's no clear picture or graphic to show it (as with so many other things in the car's cabin), so most users will have trouble noticing it when browsing the Manual unless they know its actual description. As an aside, I have seen more useful and informative car manuals (and a 644-page PDF version like mine should have more active hyperlinks to other parts (e.g., "->P.586" is plain text, not a link, so you end up manually scrolling all the way through the PDF to get to that page, which is hardly convenient). Maybe Lexus should test it with potential customers before they print or post it....<end of rant>).

Hopefully this thread will be useful to others. Thanks again!

No problem Barry.

A lot of people complain about all the mandated beeps, bongs and driver aids on new vehicles and yes, I find them irritating but I also see appalling driving every day so anything that keeps them away from me is good in my book.
