GS450hSE Posted January 13 Posted January 13 One of the back windows won't go down - 2008 GS450h in cold weather (but no lower than 25 degF, -4 degC). After having warmed the car for a bit and while driving, I tried to lower each of the windows in turn from the driver's master control. Three lowered (and then were raised by me again after a few seconds) fine. The fourth one (rear window driver's side) I heard the motor straining and immediately released the button. Later, when all was warmed up, no sound at all when I tried the same window, both from the driver's control and the rear door control as well. All the other windows work as expected. Please, what are the likeliest causes and fixes? Thanks.
RX400h Posted January 14 Posted January 14 When the window doesn't move and there's no sound when the switch is activated, it typically indicates an issue with the power window motor or the switch itself. Here are a few potential causes: Blown Fuse: Check the fuse related to the power windows. A blown fuse can prevent power from reaching the window motor. Faulty Window Motor: The motor might be malfunctioning and unable to operate the window. Broken Wires: Inspect the wiring for any breaks or damage, especially in the door where the wires can get pinched or worn out. Bad Switch: The switch might be faulty and not sending the signal to the motor. To diagnose the issue, you can use a test light to check if there's power reaching the switch and if the switch is sending power to the motor. If you're not comfortable doing this yourself, it might be best to consult a professional mechanic.
GS450hSE Posted January 14 Author Posted January 14 Thank you. The dream cause would be the fuse, but according to the User Manual that came with the car, only one fuse relates to the power windows. It is a 7.5A one at #15 in the main engine compartment fuse box, labelled 'MPX-B', and this single fuse governs: "Power windows, door control system, power seat, electronically controlled brake system, combination switch, electric tilt and telescopic steering, gauges and meters" Since the other three windows, the power seat and the tilt steering wheel controls all work for sure, it can't be this - right?
