New Owner Non-ML Aftermarket Stereo

We just purchased a 2008 RX350.  It has 308K on it and runs amazing.  

The previous owner installed an aftermarket Kenwood DDX374BT.  Basically it sounds awful.  As though the sound is only from the front passenger door and tweeter.  Playing with the balance and fader I can hear it from other speakers but at very low levels and when centered it is 99% out of the passenger front.   There is almost no bass.  Did these have a sub?  

Kenwood sent me the manual and wiring diagram of the stereo.  I've seen YT videos on removal of the factory stereo (pretty simple) and even the factory amp (more complex but doable.  Before I dig in, are there thoughts from this group for starting points?
