vcosta715 Posted December 1, 2024 Posted December 1, 2024 Hi everyone...Just bought a 97 ES300 model that was in pretty good shape. It has 236,000 miles but it looked like it was kept in very good shape. I have no maintenance records on it. Here are some issues: 1) Remote doesn't work - will try to program it based on this YouTube video... How To Program A Lexus ES300 Remote Key Fob 1998 2) Cigarette Light not working - going to check fuse 3) Brakes shake when applying brakes (guessing the front rotors are warped) Where should I get rotors and pads? 4) Minor noise heard when going over 65 mph (sounds like a fan or pump - not a consistent sound) 5) Only received one key so I need another remote and key made. Where should I get the key made and which remote? Is this a good remote? Keyless2Go Replacement for New Keyless Entry Remote Car Key Fob Avalon FCC HYQ12BBX HYQ12BAN HYQ1512Y The body is in good shape. Hood has a 12 inch deep scratch that shows rust that needs to be repair. The roof and rear view mirrors need paint where it connects to the door. Any help would be appreciated!
RX400h Posted December 2, 2024 Posted December 2, 2024 CoPilot response: Quote Congratulations on your new Lexus ES300! It sounds like a great find. I'd be happy to help with your issues: Remote Programming: The YouTube video you mentioned should be helpful. Here's a quick summary of the steps: Insert and remove the key from the ignition with the driver's door open and all other doors closed. Perform five lock/unlock cycles with the power lock switch on the driver's door. Insert the key in the ignition and turn it to ON and then OFF. Press the lock and unlock buttons on the remote at the same time, then press the lock button for two seconds. Repeat for any additional remotes. Cigarette Lighter: Checking the fuse is a good first step. If the fuse is fine, it might be an issue with the lighter itself. Brakes: For brake rotors and pads, you can check out stores like AutoZone, Advance Auto Parts, or O'Reilly Auto Parts. They offer a variety of options for your Lexus ES300. Noise Over 65 MPH: This could be a number of things, such as a fan or a belt. It might be best to have a mechanic take a look to diagnose it accurately. Key Replacement: For a new key and remote, Lexus dealerships are usually the best place to get an exact match. However, if you're looking for a third-party option, Keyless2Go is a reputable brand. Make sure the remote you choose is compatible with your vehicle's FCC ID. Bodywork: For the rust repair and paint on the hood, roof, and rear view mirrors, a professional body shop would be your best bet. 1
vcosta715 Posted December 2, 2024 Author Posted December 2, 2024 Thank you RX400h! Here is an update. 1) I received a remote with the car but it hasn't worked. It's not a Lexus remote (HYQ1512P) but it looks like one. Not sure if the battery is dead. I'll try your programming process. 2) Fuse was good and the power adapter (Cig Lighter) in the armrest works so I guess I need to replace the Cig Lighter need the radio. 3) Are there any good online stores or are the local stores the best? 4) I'll have a mechanic look at it 5) I'll go to Lexus to have the key made. I couldn't find a Keyless2Go remote with the FCC ID of HYQ1512P on Amazon. I found used Lexus remotes with that ID on Ebay for around $50. I found this generic one on another site but don't know if it's good. Keyless Entry Remote 6) I'll look for a professional but I may just do a quick repair until I can afford it.

You're welcome, Vinny. 3. Try rockauto.com. I've used them in the past and always had good luck. 5. My local Costco hosts a company that offers a keyfob replacement/programming service.
vcosta715 Posted December 7, 2024 Author Posted December 7, 2024 Funny thing is that I just received my new brake rotors and pads from RockAuto. Inexpensive and shipping was fast!
