Pmike Posted May 27 Posted May 27 (edited) Hello new to this forum but need some suggestions. So i leave car wash and drive about 12 miles. I stop at light and all the sudden everything turns off. As if someone stole my battery at the light. I put jumper cables on and got my power back so i figured battery and alternator are out. I say battery because the one in it would not take a charge after this incident. So i buy new battery hook up CORRECTLY and i noticed smoke whisking up from passenger side of motor close to radiator.Smarlls like burnt wires. I pulled the positive cable off and that is how it sits. Any ideas. Thinking about just hooking battery back up and having someone under looking for smoke. Just strange how battery completely died and it was not even a year old yet. 2007 ES 350 Edited May 27 by Pmike
RX400h Posted May 28 Posted May 28 Quote Based on your description, it seems like there might be a few things going on. Battery and Alternator: The sudden loss of power could indeed indicate an issue with the battery or alternator. The alternator plays a pivotal role in ensuring the vehicle’s electrical system operates smoothly. If the alternator develops a fault and stops generating electricity, the entire electrical load of the vehicle will shift to the battery. This drains out the battery quickly as it is no longer getting charged by the alternator. Smoke from the Engine: The smoke you noticed could be due to a few different issues. If the smoke is white and has a certain density and a particular smell, like something is burning, it indicates that the lubricant oil is burning, either because there is a leak into the inside of the combustion chamber or a leak into the exhaust system. Another possibility could be a coolant leak, which would also produce white smoke. Given the complexity of these issues, I would recommend having your vehicle inspected by a professional mechanic. They can perform a thorough diagnosis and identify the exact cause of the problems. Please remember that continuing to drive the vehicle under these conditions could potentially cause further damage. Stay safe!
