2014 IS 350 C door panels

We have deterioration on the black plastic next to the aluminum door handles - it is not leather, but part of the entire composite door panel.

We have been told that it is a fault in the material used by Lexus and can not be repaired without replacing the entire panel for well over $1000.00. 

Anyone have this problem - and more important - a solution for less that full replacement???
