One possibility you could need Tie rod ends.

Tie Rod Ends are very often the first part of the steering mechanism to wear, and are the main cause of the "sloppy feeling" that is described to diagnostic mechanics.

totally agree!!

Also, if you car "wanders" and you have to "pull" car back in line (but won't hold)...that is typical of worn ball joints.

Bought a 1997 SC400 with 70K and complete service records. The car wandered and semed sloppy. I bought new Toyo Tires and had a 4 way align. The car now is as close to new as you can get.

I am getting ready for replacing all the bushings; steering reack, front and rear lca's, rear sway bar. I am sure it will cure the loose steering issue.

Yup. That is what is it. The steering rack. You upgrading the sway bar? That would not affect loose steering.

My passenger side (US) tie rod end is loose, but it is loose inside the rack, not at the ball joint. Is there a lash screw on the rack to adjust the mesh? My passenger front tire has about 1/8" play in it and I tracked it down to the rack end. Driver side is rock solid.

After further review, Im sure the inner tie rod end is toast. $12 for a new one and these look doable with hand tools as the ends are pretty accessible.
