wucantstop Posted September 17, 2004 Posted September 17, 2004 I have heard a lot of talk about the brake wear sensors and even about how easy they are to break if you don't know what you're doing while changing brakes. I looked at lexls' tutorial on lexls.com and he makes no mention of the sensors. Where are they? How do you replace them? Does just one of them break when your brakes wear down, or all of them? I hope somebody can clarify my understanding of theses sensors.
99lsguy Posted September 17, 2004 Posted September 17, 2004 I don't know what years they started on...... but they are on the right front and right rear calipers. They snap in place on the the inside pad and have current. It is not a big deal to unhook them; but you should pay attention and be careful about it. You unsnap them remove the old pad.......put on new pad and resnap......
wucantstop Posted September 18, 2004 Author Posted September 18, 2004 I heard from the dealership around the tie I did the brake job that on my car (a '94), there were actually four sensores. Is that wrong?
ROYT Posted September 18, 2004 Posted September 18, 2004 On my '94 LS there is a wear sensor on each wheel. If you change the pads unhook them carefully, if you break one = open circuit and the dashboard warning light will come on. If it's already on, the sensor has worn through, and will have to be replaced. It is just a loop of wire that plugs in behind the disc, when the pads get too low the end wears off creating an open circuit.
