es300man Posted September 8, 2004 Posted September 8, 2004 OK you guys....got one for you! When I'm on the highway for 10 mins. or so in my '93 ES300, a little light comes on that looks like a genie's lamp. My mechanic thought it was from a defective "oil sending unit" and replaced it. Nope, still comes on. There's plenty of oil on the dipstick and it runs cool all the time. Any ideas what could be causing the light to come on? :cries:

My mechanic thought it was from a defective "oil sending unit" and replaced it. Nope, still comes on. There's plenty of oil on the dipstick and it runs cool all the time. Any ideas what could be causing the light to come on? Either oil pressure or oil level . Oil level on my 96 is a yellow light I believe and oil pressure is red.
steviej Posted September 9, 2004 Posted September 9, 2004 I have two oil lights: "the genie lamp" by itself is the Low Engine Oil PRESSURE warning light. "the genie lamp" with the wavy line under it is the Low Engine Oil LEVEL warning light. If it is an oil pressure problem, then: maybe the oil pump is getting tired. maybe the oil pick up is restricted or partially clogged. thus creating a low oil pressure when the demand for oil is higher. steviej
SKperformance Posted September 9, 2004 Posted September 9, 2004 try using an engine oil flush and replacing the oil with synthetic incase the engine is plugged
mburnickas Posted September 9, 2004 Posted September 9, 2004 Not being a smart a$$, but why not hook it up to an OBDII scanner??? Take the "guessing" right out of this????
es300man Posted September 9, 2004 Author Posted September 9, 2004 Not being a smart a$$, but why not hook it up to an OBDII scanner??? Take the "guessing" right out of this???? All good suggestions, and I think I'll have the scanner look at it. Thanks all!
SKperformance Posted September 9, 2004 Posted September 9, 2004 MB he said the oil light is on not the cel? So a scanner will not show a code for the issue mentioned?
squarehat Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 His sig says it's a 93--I don't think the 3VZ-FE was ODBII compliant--was it OBDI?
JPI Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 Not being a smart a$$, but why not hook it up to an OBDII scanner??? Take the "guessing" right out of this???? What is the scanner have to do with this problem we having? Did you pull off the oil pan ? What's the oil pressure look like? JPI
brasildude Posted October 7, 2004 Posted October 7, 2004 I am having the same problem on my 92 ES 300 - wonder what is causing that stupid yellow light to come on. I will try flushing the engine and replacing the filter and oil, hope that will take care of it
brasildude Posted October 21, 2004 Posted October 21, 2004 the problem actually was that I hit something and the oil pan was bent, so that is why the sensor light was coming on .... got it fixed
