Headlight Socket Keeps Melting

I have a 1993 ES300 and both headlight sockets keep melting. I've replaced it three times. I've tried using lower wattage bulbs but the socket still melts. Does anyone have any ideas?

which part of the socket

the wiring one or the one that holds the bulb in?

The reason your sockets are melting is because the contacts are oxidized. The added resistance causes excessive heat at this point. Either you can try cleaning off this oxidation, or use a contact cleaner before plugging it into the lamp.

It's actually the contacts that hold the bulb in.

When I replace the socket and bulb I'll spray contact cleaner to see if it helps.

excessive heat probably caused by heat build up in the headlights if they are stock bulbs

could either be the heat from the engine or the headligths vents are blocked
