PearlLex Posted July 30, 2004 Posted July 30, 2004 I had been having problems with my check engine light coming on. Then I reset it and it would stay off 100 miles or so then come back on. Tonight after about 1000 miles of being on, it went away. Is this common and will it come back on?
jkosasih Posted July 30, 2004 Posted July 30, 2004 The check engine light come on only if there is a problem, so when it's on again go stop by at autozone and let them read the code. It is weird after is on and off by itself unless you unplug the battery.
SKperformance Posted July 31, 2004 Posted July 31, 2004 it is normal for it to turn off and on depending on the problem, it does the same thing after 3 cylces of the engine it is the egr not working properly
dcfish Posted July 31, 2004 Posted July 31, 2004 Get it coded so we know what the problem really is ?
PearlLex Posted July 31, 2004 Author Posted July 31, 2004 i have a 96. autozone said they didn't have the right tool to fix it. if it is the egr, does anyone know how much these cost?
SKperformance Posted July 31, 2004 Posted July 31, 2004 go back, autozone doesn;t realize you have an obd2 system not an obd1
PearlLex Posted August 1, 2004 Author Posted August 1, 2004 they looked! autozones tester is rectangular. the diagnostic on mine is circular....
SKperformance Posted August 1, 2004 Posted August 1, 2004 you have more than one diagnostic plug the one they want to look for is the one in the dash beside the fuse panel behind its cover. it is rectangular.
PearlLex Posted August 1, 2004 Author Posted August 1, 2004 that is a tester? i saw it yesterday but i was just going with the plug that says diagnostic on it. i'll try that and let you know.
PearlLex Posted August 2, 2004 Author Posted August 2, 2004 yep. autozone ran it. its the front o2 sensor. wh00t
SKperformance Posted August 2, 2004 Posted August 2, 2004 i thought so, they are idiots sometimes. get a motorvac it is cheaper can will improve the overall performance of the whole car as well as gas milage and should clean up the o2 as well
