BARNEYHYPHEN
2000 LX470 76,000 MILES. WILL NOT START. TURN THE KEY AND GET ONE "CLICK". MAYBE 1 IN 20 ATTEMPTS THE ENGINE ACTUALLY CRANKS AND THE CAR STARTS. BATTERY TESTED YESTERDAY AT AUTOZONE AND CONFIRMED GOOD. SOUNDS LIKE A SOLENOID PROBLEM? DO I REPLACE JUST THE SOLENOID ($90+) OR THE WHOLE STARTER ($200+)? IS THE STARTER ACCESSABLE? HOW LONG SHOULD THE JOB TAKE ME? VERY MECHANICALLY CAPABLE BUT ANY AND ALL ADVICE WOULD CERTAINLY BE VERY MUCH APPRECIATED. THANKS.
itmdtr
The starter is located underneath the intake plenum/manifold. For the work it takes it might be wise to replace the entire starter.
a_lu_co
Hi there, how did you end up with the starter? My LX 99 has the same problem, and was wondering if I could just change the solenoid, or the entire starter. Thanks
hoser
Step by step, how to change your starter contacts. http://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=9117
Jim_Chow
I also vote for starter contacts. Sounds like you have the classic symptoms. Make sure you change the plunger rather than the contacts only, just to be sure.
