I have a 95 Lexus LS 400 that will start and run fine in part or neutral but as soon as you try to shift it to reverse the starter re-engages.  If you start it in neutral and put it in drive this doesn't happen.  Any ideas on the problem?

Sounds like the copper dust in the NSS is causing your problem. The line to brake lights (12V) and the starter relay line in it must be leaking each other. Remove it and see inside of it and you'd be amazed at the mess.

I hate to be ignorant but what is the NSS?  I am having problems with a brake light that keeps blowing.  Is that what you are saying is that the line to the brakes and the starter relay line are touching each other?

Neutral Safety Switch - is that the NSS?

Yes.

The link below may help you to know more about the NSS.

One correction at my previous post : The line to brake lights (12V) ---> The line to back up lights (12V)
