Engine Oil

I just bought a 06 lx470 has just over 100k . I am having the timing belt and water pump replaced and asked the mechanic to change the oil .He keeps insisting that I find out the exact type of oil. I bought it from a Kia dealer they told me it was a blend. I called the lexus dealer from the name on the sticker indicating the next oil change mileage. I get two different answers. Forums say synthetic 5 w30. Does anyone know what is recommended? Also, if I just tell them synthetic and it has been using a blend will this hurt my car. Thanks!

I have attached a link to the Castrol website which you can enter your vehicle details to find out the correct grade of oil.

I would only use the correct grade and specifications as modern engines are very particular about the oil used.

From the owner's manual to my previous 2005 GX470 (I don't expect your car to be different):

QUOTE

Engine oil selection
“Toyota Genuine Motor Oil” is used in your Lexus vehicle. Use
Lexus approved “Toyota Genuine Motor Oil” or equivalent to
satisfy the following grade and viscosity.
Oil grade: API grade SL “Energy–Conserving” or ILSAC
multigrade engine oil.
Recommended viscosity: SAE 5W–30
SAE 5W–30 is the best choice, for good fuel economy and
good starting in cold weather.
If SAE 5W–30 oil is not available, SAE 10W–30 may be
used. However, it should be replaced with SAE 5W–30 at
the next oil change.
