Water Pump Failure At 63k Miles, 8 Mos Past Powertrain Warranty Ends

Recommended Posts

If you own at 2008 RX400h, check your water pump. At a routine service visit today, ours is dripping and needs replacement. This is nuts with only 63K miles. Unfortunately this past the powertrain warranty. PLEASE post other related issues so LEXUS knows this is not isolated.

Your RX is eight model years old. Time as well as miles affect the cooling system.

The water pump on my first LS failed at about 75,000 miles - about four years. It wasn't covered by warranty either.

It's not the water pump that failed; it's the gasket. Ours was saturated (but not yet leaking) at 90,000 miles. Gaskets that are heated and cooled many thousands of times over the years cannot last forever. Thus, it didn't come as a surprise when I was told of the orange color surrounding the water pump.
