Apple Carplay

I have owned 2 new Lexus models since 2002 and I was hoping to purchase the new 2016 RX 450h when it arrives — but I understand it will not be Apple CarPlay compatible, so guess I’ll have to look at the Mercedes, BMW, Acura and Infinity models. Guess I like Apple better than Lexus, been with Apple since 1982.

Hi, and welcome to LOC.

Please fill me in as to what Apple CarPlay is? I just listen to Pandora or my music on my iTunes. As much as I love music, I wouldn't let it be a deciding factor of what car I drove. I still think my Music Box in my Infiniti was the best thing ever, but it didn't stop me from getting rid of the car.

I have a Lexus and Apple stuff. Is car play when you get in and it automatically loads your playlists? Like others, I have never heard it called Apple Play either.

Does Apple CarPlay work with Android phones? The vast majority of the people I know use Android phones and wouldn't touch an iPhone - odd how most people who work in tech are that way.

Android User, you are technically correct except for the word "vast." Approx 52% of the US market use the Android OS. Kind of reminds me of the old computer days when my DOS friends refused to admit the Mac was a much better system. Of course Windows copied all of the Mac stuff to try to catch up. lol!

I used the word "vast" to describe the percentage of people in the tech field I work with who use Android phones - all six people in my "office row". Most of the people I know who use iPhones are not at all technically inclined or are techies who have iPhones only because their children also have them. I thought it was humorous today when I found that our highest regarded scientist, a "young" (30's) PhD nuclear physicist, prefers a Samsung phone running Microsoft Windows. My C.P.A. wife has an iPhone 6. She is not at all into technology and she expects me to help her. I've come to regard her iPhone 6 as sort of an "Android Lite" - simpler to operate, limited functionality, limited available of applications. I don't think that the iPhone is bad at all - it may well be better for the masses.

Trust on this - I hated DOS! (and hated programming in machine language and Assembler too). For sure, the best operating systems do not always prevail. Early versions of Microsoft Windows were a complete joke compared to IBM's OS/2 which was rock solid stable. Windows won and few people remember OS/2.

iPhone is better for the technally challenged like myself. Very easy to use and figure out.

As long as I can take pics, videos, text, search the web, and play my music....I'm happy. Oh yeah, I can make phone calls on it too. Teeheehee.
