New Rear Tires, Car Now Handles Like Crap....

Recommended Posts

I just got new rear tires for my '06 IS350-- the preivous one were worn down to slicks. I replaced my front tires at the end of August 2013--- my guess is about 20-25K miles on them. Also had a front end alignment when I had the rear tires installed, last Saturday. Ever since I got the new rear tires the car has been pulling both to the left and right-- not a real hard pull, but the sterring, especially at higher speeds 55+ MPH is a lot worse than before I got the new tires.
Do I need to also get new front tires? there is a decent amount of tread left on my fronts, but the car now handles like garbage.

I have a personal rule which is I always change all 4 tires at the same time. THEN if I have a problem like yours, nobody but the tire installers can be blamed. I did see you mentioned "a lot worse than before " which seems to go back to the problem. Your car shouldn't have ANY problems steering. Yes, I'd replace the fronts. Seems the insides experience excessive wear if you drive like I do but it works out okay to wear out with the rears.

Good point Steve. The days of front end alignments are about over. Many of those were "toe & roll" alignments. I only have an alignment done if I have a problem. It is works fine before new tires, it should still be fine after new tires.

Note: My Lexus dealer will price match any other tire vendor. I think this may be true with most Lexus dealers. This can save you money, but more importantly if the dealer mounts and balances the tires and you still have your problem, your dealer will have some skin in the game and more knowledge about your IS350.

Let us know how things turn out.

My custom tire/wheel shop that I use regularly matches major online vendor pricing for tires. The experience and expertise is very high level so I always use them for tires/wheels/suspension/alignment needs.

So Phil, what's the news/update please?
