pj8708 Posted March 27, 2015 Share Posted March 27, 2015 Lexus has begun putting in place a new training program to train dealers on improving working with women customers and groups that may not feel welcomed in the Lexus dealers experience. This follows the input from new and old customers. Since women play a substantial roll in making the decision to buy, it only makes sense to include them in the process instead of talking only to the man. As we all know, there are good dealer's out there and really bad ones as well. This is part of Lexus program to get all dealers to give their customers a professional and respectful experience. I went with a friend to a Mercedes dealership because she didn't know anything about cars. When the salesman tried to explain the cross drilled rotors as the little round things that stop the car have holes to keep them cool, I jumped all over him and told him that my Z28 had cross drilled rotors and I was quite aware of their purpose and please don't talk to me like I'm an idiot. I blame the school system for not teaching the basic operations of a vehicle. With so many people living in apartments now, a vehicle is probably their biggest investment. We told the dealer what we wanted and that it was for my wife. The salesman took over and concentrated his presentation to Chris, and took time to answer any and all questions. When it came time to deliver the car, their Tech Specialist spent almost 20 minutes going over all the features and questions she had. I taught in the electives where there was more freedom to teach. In the academic areas, the suits are all into the testing and care about little else. Banking, finances, home buying etc. Too many kids come from broken homes and whichever parent is raising them is working so hard they don't have a lot of teaching time. Not saying that I wasn't effective but if you are one of those people that can absorb the input from about 100 students per day for over 30 years then you understand what I mean.You learn quite amazing things. I was lucky and was able to teach real life skills and along with that the values that must be added to those skills in order to achieve the higher levels of success. While students were sanding wood or working working on a Power Point presentation, I was able to insert things such as the value of Roth IRA's for the youngest people. The value of military service (Hampton Roads is a huge military area so many of our students go on to serve). Understanding tires and tire selection with an emphasis on deciphering the coding on tires then using online resources like Tire Rack or Discount to select and purchase (well, fantasy purchase) replacement tires for one of their parents vehicles.The history of National Parks in America. How to paint. How to change an outlet. How to drive a nail. The list could go on volumes. Regular teachers (or "core" teachers as we called them) are in a really bad situation. What in the past was creative and inspiring learning has transposed into teaching from cue cards and then expecting even the most handicapped or environmentally deprived child to pass tests at the same level as privileged children. Meanwhile, back at the board room, our duly elected officials whine and moan about the school budget and have denied teachers and staff any significant raises in over a decade. Oh, not just teachers, oh no. I have several friends who are cops, EMS, firefighters, ditch diggers, custodians you name it. Not much for a long long time. Meanwhile our city officials are working on a plan to build a $300 Million train that should pay for itself in about 300 years (based on Norfolk's success with the same deal. Ah, life in the city. Tomorrow (well, I guess today) is suppose to be a really nice day so I am looking forward to taking my race car out for a drive. Might even see if I can get the oil changed. Where did we go so wrong? Memphis can't do anything because it spends all its money arresting and incarcerating the same thugs over and over again. When we were young, Memphis had the greatest school system in the country, now it is the worst and millions in debt. On a lighter note......it is beautiful here too and my car will have no roof. :-).
