Gs 300 Door Lock Problem

My wife has a 2000 GS 300 and from time to time, the doors won't lock when she clicks on the door lock button inside the car, or when she holds down on the remote control lock.

Any ideas on why it would work sometimes and not all the time?

Just an FYI, I am not a mechanic, not at all; so if this gets too technical, I might have to bow out of the thread or take it to

a mechanic to fix.......

Just hope it isn't a huge problem.
