Bryan LX470
We own a 2007 Lexus LX470 with 95k miles. We've owned it for around 6 months. The Check Engine, VSC and VSC Lights have all come on and then go off a few days later. This has happened 3 times in 6 months. They all turn on, but then all go off on their own. I have read online where a loose gas cap is sometimes the culprit. We try and make it tight when we refuel, but I have noticed occassionly when I re-check the tightness later, that it has become a little loose. I have not had the codes read yet. I suspect I should do that first to verify that if the gas cap is the problem or not. The other idea I had was to replace the gas cap with a new one. Any additional thoughts? eugene.s
The best is to buy some cheap OBD II tool (e.g. Fotga MINI VCI) and check the codes and the pressurisation in the fuel system at different RPM (these codes, in particular, light up with a loose fuel cap as the car thinks there's a leak in the fuel system). I am not sure anyone can really feel if the cap is loose (once closed with a "click" you can only open it - but probably cannot test if it was tight before), so replacing a cap might be a good idea, indeed.
jacktherealtor
Mine is doing this now. Is it really simply a gascap issue? I actually did try to twist the cap tighter after I had it happen. My son used the truck for a couple weeks and just returned it (great kid, washed and fully gassed up) and possibly didn't secure the cap all the way. I had a myriad of troubles/lights and issues with my Toyota Sequoia and dash lights. Turned out my mechanic lost my gascap when he was taking WAY too long to do some repairs and bought a cheap !Removed! gascap from Napa (nice enough to bill me for it actually). The lights began and NO it couldn't be the NEW gas cap, he said. I ordered a factory on from Amazon, lo and behold, NO lights!
jakmr26
had this same issue. it was actually my alternater. The voltage regulater was over charging battery. It was causing all my check lights to go on. it was charging my battery at over 17. After changed alternator everything good.
