Ipod Taking A Very Long Time To Index Song Titles.

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have a 2013 GS350 F-Sport and a 5th generatoin 160GB iPod with about 6000 songs (approx 43GB).

I plug it in and the songs are available right away but the 'a-z,0-9' index buttons are greyed out. They were eventually available but only after about 30+ mins of driving around. Before that, you had to search through the songs sequentially. That is to say, you could not jump the the letter the song title started with.

I hooked to iPod up to my computer to remove about 300 songs then plugged it back into the car. Again the songs were made available immediately but only sequentially with the 'index letters' greyed out. This time, instead of driving around, I left the car on in the garage. Started at 7:07pm, at 8:43pm, the letters were still greyed out.

It's a 5th gereration iPod classic so it's harddrive based. As not to delay the indexing by having to fight a songs linear read, i pause the song. Still takes forever.

Does anyone know how to speed this process up?

Thanks in advance.

I also have 6K songs, but with 6th and 7th gen Ipod. I have a 2012 LS 460L, with Mark Levinson sound. I am not sure if my problem is related to indexing or it is just a crippled user interface. My problem is that there is no reasonable way to find a song out of 6K songs.

Before I bought this LS, I observed that Infinity and Hyundai Equus sound systems have a reasonable scrolling capability like the Ipod itself. That is, if you spin the folder selector fast, it jumps to a fast mode, and the first letter of the song title group is displayed.

With the LS, there is no such feature. It takes forever just to scroll through a few hundred songs. Then once you find a song in a list, if you jump back between the text and list, you lose your place in the list and have to start over! I am going back to the dealership and complain. I am hoping there is a firmware update.
