  1. I recently brought my car in to have the dashboard replaced under the Warranty Enhancement Notification and had the car battery replaced at the same time. When I picked up my car, the moonroof would not open and neither the tilt nor power button would do anything, so I could not reset it myself. The dome/map light would not come on manually or when a door was open. These remain issues. A little while later, the audio system started doing strange things intermittently including: power off causes eject disk, then power off switches radio to FM, then power off ejects another CD; power off causes eject disk, I reload disk, then power off turns unit off; power off causes eject disk, hitting load turns off unit; power off causes eject, do not load a disk, unit shuts off by itself. Otherwise it is hard to switch off the unit. After a couple of weeks, this behavior mostly stopped. Now the light which illuminates the radio display stays off most of the time, but sometimes it will come back on. One of the dual function tail lights stopped working (it was off with the headlights on and came on when the car was in reverse - the dash indicator light came on indicating an issue) and then it started working again and the dash indicator light went off). I plan to return the car to the dealer to see if they can figure out what is going on. Could all this be related to just the battery being disconnected? When I changed the battery myself on a 2005 RX330, nothing happened other than needing to reset the power windows. When a dash is replaced, does any wiring harness behind it need to be unplugged? If so, perhaps there is a poor connection when a harness was reconnected.
  2. Hey guys, I have a 2005 RX330 and I think there is an electrical issue with it. If I don't drive it for 2 or 3 days, it completely kills the battery, to the point that it can't even be charged up. Im already on my third battery. What do you think could be the culprit here? And how to do I go about diagnosing it? Unfortunately, I don't know much about the car and why it started doing this as I just bought it. Looking forward to hearing your response! Thanks in advance!
  3. Hey guys, I just bought my first sc400 and I have a couple questions, my biggest concern is that she keeps burning alternators i read somewhere that it might be my power steering? Or someone mentioned the valve cover cap? Any help would be greatly appreciated as i cant afford to take her to a shop, also any general tips about this car Would be awesome, thanks guys!
  4. Daytime Running Headlights

I have a 2004 Lexus ES 330, my daytime running headlights currently do not come on. The automatic lights still work in the fact that the night lights will engage when the sensor detects the appropriate level of darkness. I took the car in and they wanted $400 just to hook the system up to find the error. Is there a fuse or something I can try and replace or how can I do the repair myself? $400 seems a little high to me to just diagnose the issue without it being fixed.
  5. Hi everyone. I have a 2006 GS300, 2 weeks ago when leaving work i unlocked the car and pressed the brake in and once i pressed the start button everything died electrical. After 2-3 minutes i saw the system restart and i was able to start and drive home. Today the same thing happened except this time no reboot, no electrical, cant even go into acc mode. No lights or power locks and the brake pedal stays pressed in. Anyone know whats going on? or possibly point me in the right direction?
  6. Looking for some ideas on what to do next. I have a 1993 ES 300 that I've owned for just about 3 years, and have had tons of electrical problems with. I am the third owner and it came with a huge file of receipts for maintenance and work done over the years, it all looked pretty normal - nothing alarming. Since purchase I have replaced the battery and alternator 2x each. Here are the problems/steps taken so far: Battery kept dying; replaced battery under warranty - everything is good for approximately 3-6 months New battery started dying, did some at-home testing/readings with my "car guy"; replaced the alternator with a used one from local junkyard - everything is good for a few more months Battery continues to have problems with dying, took car into local Japanese auto place with good reviews. They diagnosed the issue as a short in the CD player draining the battery; disconnected CD player - everything's good for a few more months. Battery continues to have problems, assume the battery got fried from the bad alternator/short draining it; replace battery again, good for several more months Start having battery/dying problems again; confirmed alternator is failing with my "car guy", replace with another junkyard alternator - good for approximately 3 months Present day, my car will not start and is difficult to jump to boot. When it does get jumped and runs, everything charges up the way it should - it just doesn't maintain charge. During this time I've experienced a lot of other odd little electrical problems. My headlights dim slightly when I brake or use the power windows. Dome light stopped working, though I assumed that was just a burnt out bulb - have not bothered replacing so not totally sure there. Some lights on my dash/stereo that used to work have stopped working. I've noticed that the numbers on the clock are not displaying quite right; there are bits of other number parts remaining when there shouldn't be (if that makes sense). My antenna has a hard time going up and down, and at this point does not go up/down at all. One of the back windows doesn't roll down and hasn't since I got it, but I have just assumed that was a burnt out motor that I didn't care to replace. At this point I imagine it's all connected though. I make sure to turn off all systems/lights/etc before turning off my car, there is nothing basic like that that is draining the battery. The car never dies while I am driving it, but when I start to have problems it'll be slow to turn over when starting, and eventually stops starting at all. Not sure where to go from here. I'm apprehensive to take it back to the Japanese auto place I've been before since they just diagnosed it as a short in my CD player when clearly there is a bigger problem. I tried to get in with another local mechanic that everyone swears by, but they are booked out for 2 weeks. The nearest Lexus service center is over 50 miles away. I have considered ordering a rebuilt alternator through a vendor, but think it will likely be a waste of money because it seems there is likely a larger problem at play. If anyone has had similar experiences or has thoughts on what to look into as the source of the issues, I'm all ears. Thank you!
  7. The car started out with draining batteries in 3 or 4 days. Found a bad connection in the alternator harness. Fixed and ran great for a few months. Trac light came on and off a few times then stopped. Started losing power and would die or start accelerating properly. Had to kick in passing gear to avoid an accident. Made a clicking noise on the passenger side . It began to shift eraticaly. Changed out the fuel pressure regulator. No change. Car starts fine and will drive great until it looses power and coasts to a stop, then restarts. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm in the 76140 area code in case anyone knows of a good mechanic in my area. Also changed the fuel relay. All fuses and relays are good. Thanks again.
  8. Battery Draw

Hello, I have a 2006 LX470 premium edition, my battery seems to be running down every 4 to 5 days if I don't run the engine. I even got a new batter recently. My total draw on the battery when the car has been parked for a while is around 180-190ma. When I performed a parasitic draw test I found that the ECU unit was drawing about 150ma when parked. Is this normal for 2006 LX470? any suggestions or recommendations?
  9. Hello Forum, I have a 1999 ES300 Coach edition with about 150k miles that has a few issues at the moment but the one that has me stumped is an electrical issue. Recently, I drove the car into my garage to protect it from the Chicago cold snap and left it there for about two weeks. When I returned to it, the battery was completely drained. I tried jumping it and while would turn over, a bad idle due to an unclean IACV kept making the car die. So, while I trickle charged the battery I cleaned the IACV. The battery became fully charged and would turn over and idle well, but there were an odd set of electrical issues. I have pulled each blade fuse and inspected that they all are working (not blown). I suspect the drained battery has reset something or that a jump/trickle charge might have broken something that I can't find. Just before typing this post I tried to start the car again (4 days after the full charge via trickle charge) and the battery was completely dead again. It's back on the trickle charge now. Okay, below is a list of the electrical system items that work and that don't work. Any tips about what to check/change/fix to make them all work would be GREATLY appreciated. When I get through this project, I'll ask about the potential central line hole that's seeming to cause air sensors to keep going bad (more on that later). Here's what's NOT working: Rear tail lights out (no brake lights when I push the brake, no running lights either in the rear)Gear shift won't budge out of park (which I know could be related to the brakes issue above but the fuse is good so ...)Not a single dashboard light works. By this, I mean: The odometer & tachometer needles and display are not lit and not working - the tach doesn't register any RPMs. It sits as though pinned to the bottom of the dash The gas gauge is registering empty. This area of the dash and the needle are unlit The engine temp gauge is on C, but that could be because it's been very cold here and it could be working. Who knows on that one? This area and needle are unlit too.The radio is not working. No sound, no lights, no display, no nothing from itThe Heat / AC is completely dark. No air blows, no controls work, can't turn it on or off. All the dials are unlit too.The electric windows don't workThe moon roof doesn't work. The controls to reposition the seat don't workHere's what IS working: Door ajar chime (which I wish wouldn't work at the moment)Interior dome lightSeat belt icon on dashboardThe headlights turn on (I didn't try high beams but I suspect they'll work) When I turn on the lights, the green light on the dashboard does turn on tooThe green halo light around the key/ignition worksThe horn worksThat's what I can recall. If I get it started again I'll provide more if there is more to provide. In the meantime, if you can help with any tips/suggestions I'll be very grateful. I really love this car and want to save it if I can. Thanks! Dan
  10. I have my 1994 Lexus Sc400. The issue I am having is that the electrical is not completely going through the whole vehicle causing only a few things to work in the vehicle (headlights, simple lights, and the horn. Nothing else will show, not even the dash lights.) How can I solve this problem. I have already checked the fuses, and they all seem to be in okay shape. Please help me.
  11. Battery in my 98 es300 died so I tried jump starting and accidently put negative onto positive.Replaced battery with new one,but having problems with most of my electricals.Lights work but other than that everything is dead.My cluster won't turn on,blinkers don't work, radio,ac,windows, locks, seats don't move, basically everything will not work. Also when I try to move car out of gear it will not budge.Car does not go past 3rd gear. Please help? Car was perfectly normal the day before.
  12. My gs400 was recently in a rear ended, minor body damage, I had it repaired at a local autobody place. No welding was required. I started experiencing strange electrical problems after getting the car back. Power surges, and failures. Took it in and was told the alternator was shot, but it just had a new nippondenso put in 11k ago. I'm thinking a ground wire got knocked loose during the body work. Any thoughts on where I should start?
  13. Have been going to a community shop here for a while, they do pretty good work but I think I need someone who specializes in Lexus given some experiences I have had of late. Also I need to find someone strong in Lexus electrical as I'm having a persistent problem that we can't seem to solve on my RX330. Any advice on a good Lexus service shop here around Washington, DC? I saw someone post about Lxt Automotive in Rockville a few years ago. Any others that you can recommend?
  14. I was recently troubleshooting a problem with my instrument cluster (unrelated) on my 96 LS400. I checked a few interior fuses, I think fuse 5 and 7, and I removed, repaired and re-installed my instrument cluster. Then the next time I started my car, it had all these problems. The shifter lights never come onthe headlights wont turn on when switched to autowhen the headlights are switched to auto the headlight turn off and the radio/climate control lights come onwhen the headlights are switched to on the headlights turn on and the radio/climate control lights are offthe cluster light dimmer no longer does anything (the lights are always at their brightest)There is a mystery wire with an unusual terminal attached (it looks like a fork terminal with only 1 long prong that is folded in half. Maybe it's from an old repair?) hanging near the fuse box which is currently not connected to anything. I recall this wire being inside the fuse box when I was checking the fuses because i though was odd that there would be a lose wire inside the fuse box. I'm wondering it may have disconnected from somewhere when I was pulling the fuses, but I can find anything to plug it in to and I'm not even sure if it was connected to anything in the first place. This is the first time I've worked on the electronics in the interior of a car. Is it normal to have seemingly unaffiliated wires hanging around, because there are several others with different terminals on them. Also on the back of the instrument cluster bezel (the part with the instrument cluster dimmer switch and odometer buttons) some of the wires appear to be taped together. I'm wondering if the car underwent some makeshift repairs to the wiring. Anyway, does anybody have any idea if these relays and lights that are malfunctioning are on the same circuit or if they are related to this mystery wire?
  15. I have a 91 LS400 and I recently started having problems with the instrument cluster. The speedometer works intermittently sometimes reading the correct speed, no speed, or will show double the speed i am traveling at. All of the lights (i.e o/d, check engine, traction control, etc.) flash at random times and then go off randomly. The only thing that is not messing up it the Tachometer. The cruise control works but shuts off every time the speedometer changes position randomly. I am thinking it may be a problem with the ECU since the cluster seems to be able to operate all of it's functions with incorrect information. Thanks in advance!
  16. I own a 2008 Lexus RX 350 with about 65,000 miles on it. Three years ago the battery discharged totally and created large amounts of corrosion around the positive battery cable. The damage required the dealer to replace the engine wiring harness. Since this was about a $3,000 repair I was happy that it was covered under the warranty. Now I have the same problem again. This time the dealer thinks we can just replace the positive battery cable. They have no idea what is causing this recurring problem. If anyone has had a similar problem I would appreciate hearing how you resolved it.
  17. Battery Drainage

I bought a 93 Ls400 in July, pass few weeks I've had battery drainage issues. New battery and alternator checked out good. Using a meter I determined the drainage (while car is off) is coming from the dome circuit. When fuse it out the battery stays good. When fuse is in, the battery is drained within 6-8 hours and won't start. Nothing is is being left on that I can see. Any ideas on what it could be on this circuit that is causing the drain? This circuit is one of the bigger circuits with lots of functions on it. Nothing has been done to modify anything to cause this problem. It just appeared out of nowhere. Appreciate any help with this. I haven't gotten around to checking everything on the circuit yet, plan on doing this over next couple of days. I was just curious if anyone knows of a similar problem to help me narrow down the issue. THANKS!
  18. My dad and i have just purchased a 94 gs300 with 86000 mi and the ac will only blow hot air, the compressor has started in the past briefly as a test, i am not exactly sure how but it involved a modified relay after starting the car. the person we bought if from claimed to have filled the Freon and tested a new relay both did not work permanently.
  19. Hey everyone, I'm not new to the forum, however haven't been on in a long while, and some how can't access old account. I have the following issues with my 2006 GS300 only 40,000 on my baby: All lights are coming on. P/S, Brake Light, ABS, AFS off, and Check engine light (possible tire pressure). Car will not shift out of park. unless using shift lock release button. A/C display on screen not working (Frozen), or manual buttons for usage. Gear indictator on dash not lighting up showing current gear. Temperature guage stuck on cold all the way on bottom. Gas light is always on and bounces up and down briefly. Windshield washer spray stopped working. All of this occured after installing Prestigious Society's module. The good new the module works! The bad new my car is a nightmare now and can't not be driven long distances now. I had a trip planned on Friday going to Toronto from Boston. I have attached pics below of everything that came on. I tried disconnecting the battery and letting it sit for an hour before connecting it back. Issue still remains. I had Vais Soundlinq 2 before and Grom in the past without an issue Can someone help me out with some advice! I would like to fix it before a sad trip to the stealership>Lexus or Toyota. Thanks again!! :chairshot:
  20. [my subject title was cut short = Electrical burn smell inside '96 LS400 after turning the car over (attempting to start the car) ] When I arrived home one evening - my '96 LS400... I was driving around all day taken care of errands (mix of <5mi, or >30mi). I guess I can be thankful that I made it home vs. this happening somewhere else. When I turn the key to ACC, the steering wheel auto moved (as usual), the dash / everything lights up. But the moment I turned it "on", everything shut off - no headlights, no dash, no interior lights, etc. When I stepped out of the car, I had to manually lock the door. After about 20 min, I tried the remote unlock and it worked, When I opened the door, the interior light came on. When it turned the key to ACC everything lite up. When I turned the key 'on', poof everything shut off again. I tried the 20min wait again, but nothing this time. When I first sat in the car, I could smell a hint of an electrical short / burning smell. Maybe a wire attached to the ignition key is shorted out. Or the motor for the steering wheel burned up. I did not have a chance to look at the fuses (this evening). Any thoughts re: the burning smell? Or any other suggestions?
  21. 1st incident. Went into Best Buy, came out and car had ZERO electrical. No power... although the door unlock on the key fob worked. Jumped car with AAA and car started. Battery was ok and Alt ok. 2nd incident. Road trip 1hr away. On the way back stopped at a gas station to fill up. Got back in the car, Zero electrical, no dash lights nothing. Got a jump from another car. It wasn't the batt. Jump didn't help. Checked fuses... and relays..While playing with those the dome light came on. Car had power and started. 3rd incident. Got into car and had no power. Zero... switched ignition on and off a few times.. power came on. Car started. Later on after 40 minutes of driving went into Target. Came out car started. Exiting the parking lot, I stopped at a stop sign and the car lost all electrical while breaking. Zero electrical. Switched the ignition on and off a few times and regained power car started. 4th(MORNING AFTER 3RD INCIDENT) Came out in the morning to go to work, got in the car no electrical wouldn't start no dash lights as usual. Played with the ignition.. nothing would power up. Called AAA. No power... while tech was hooking up the jumper system the dome light came on I was alo playing with the relays. Car had power and started. He ran a diagnostic on the batt and alt and everything was good. I decided at that point to drive it to my mechanic. He took it for the day and said it started up every time and that he removed the main relay and it looked fine. All connections to the fuse box were solid and no corrosion. Battery terminals were on tight. Car had been starting since then with no issues for 5 days. Incidents 1 and 2 were apprx 6 months ago and 3 and 4 were last week. What could be the problem? What should I replace? Ignition switch? Main Relay? Any Help would be appreciated.
