  1. Well, I tried another thing and it worked. i took off the negative battery clamp and let it sit for a hour. Took the car for a 25 minute drive and it started working again. Maybe it completed some sort of drive cycle and reset? Anyhow it now works. Bob D
  2. Hi all, have a 1996 LS and both original key fobs have stopped working. All functions still work with the key, car starts, can set alarm system, rear trunk lid opener opens with the switch inside on dash. Here is what I have done so far: Checked battery voltage in both remotes, they both read about 2.4V. Even put in new batteries. Checked with a voltmeter every fuse in both the engine and interior fuse panels. Cleaned the terminals on the car battery, which is new. Unhooked the negative battery terminal and let the car sit to "reset". Nothing I haven't done the reset procedure because I read that without all of the door actuators working you cannot complete the steps. 3 of mine are bad. I have the factory manual, but unfortunately don't have the companion manual with the wiring diagrams. If anyone knows what pages in the mechanical manual would help out let me know. Would anyone have any info regarding the placement, and how to check the actual remote receiver that receives the signal from the remote, or am I barking up the wrong tree? Any help appreciated as I'm out of ideas. Thanks, Bob D
  3. Thanks Exhaustgases. The parts look so similar, would hate to buy the 90-94 bushing and it was slightly off. Lexus even changed the part number for the bolt and nut. Probably just spring for the 96 parts!!!
  4. Hi All, looking to replace lower control arm bushing in my 96 LS. For 90-94 Lexus made a separate bushing. For my 96 they only show the arm and bushing as one part number. Does anyone know of a bushing that I can press in, instead of buying a complete arm? Thanks, Bob D
  5. VB, yea one to two feet of snow. I should be checking the bushings on the snow blower instead of worrying about the LS !!! Bob
  6. Thanks everyone again for the reply's. It seems from the general consensus that the bushings on the strut bars would be the first plan of attack. I fortunately have a few ton press in my workshop, so I will buy the inserts from Sewell and give that a shot. Crummy weather is planned for NYC, so probably have to wait for the next few nice days before I dig in. One of my pet peeves from the various forums that I belong to, is that everyone is so generous providing info and their knowledge, but then we never hear back from recipient if the fix worked or not. Therefore nobody learns! I will definitely report back after I put in the bushings. Thanks, Bob
  7. Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I guess I am going to get it jacked up, and start to root around. The straight line stability is really awful, so I would imagine something (bushing, tie rod ends etc...) is terribly shot, and hopefully would be easy to identify. I would like to try to get the right part to replace and not have to keep replacing until I hit the right one. I failed to mention in my original post that the car has 186k on it, so there might be a number of bushing that may be shot. I did the whole timing belt service (not bad if you take your time), and other than the crummy steering, the car has been wonderful, since I picked it up from the original owner back in 2003. VB quick question ? are you saying you replaced the struts, as I am not familiar with the LS having torsion bars, or does Lexus have another name for it? I checked on the Sewell sight parts breakdown list and didn't see any torsion bars listed? Would you have a part number I can reference? Thanks, Bob
  8. Hi All, Have a 96, LS400 that is all over the road. I have replaced the steering rack bushings, and it still needs constant correction when going in a straight line. Feels very sloppy. Tires good, pressure checked. Alignment good. Tie rod ends? Any Ideas? Thanks, Bob D
