SORRY I DON'T EXACTLY KNOW WHY THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON IN THE FIRST PLACE BUT IT'S WISE TO SPEND FOR AN INSPECTION AND THEN SHOP AROUND AFTER YOU KNOW WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE CAR...

we have a 1992 sc400 that has about 150,000 miles on it. we've run into a lot of problems lately and maintenance/repairs are very costly. my advice to you however, is to keep it well maintained (since you bought it in such excellent condition)so you will not run into problems later. Lexus is a great car and hold up well. most mechanics will say the same, it's just that when you do run into a problem with the car, it's quite expensive so i'd suggest that if you ever run into a problem with it, take care of it asap!!! we didn't and now are deep into costly repairs.

Lexus sc400 starts no problem. Once on the road no problem. Until! when reaching a stop sign/light the car will not move!!! It will still be on (in drive), the rpms go up when gas is pressed but won't budge...what the??? Had to park it, wait, and it works again. Please help if this has happened to you before. did you ever get prob fixed? how much? 92 sc400 had high idle. then... check engine light came on. so couldn't pass smog. then paid 1000.00 to "fix" code. less than a week later, car dies while driving. got it towed to place where they "fixed" code. now mentioning transmission... car totally dead :(
