  1. I was recommended to a local mechanic in Sudbury Massachuessets. I ordered strut bars from Park Place Lexus in Dallas Tx. (good price, free shipping). I took them to Frank at Sudbury Auto care to have them replaced. Frank went throught the whole suspension (everything) he could not find anything wrong with my car. He could easyly went a head and replaced the strut bars but told me everything was OK. This guy is honest. He worked for Bernardi Toyota and Honda dealership. He has all OBD equipment and uses OEM parts only. I am not related to this guy but I could not reccommend this mechanic more. If you live in eastern Mass. and have a Lexus,Toyota,Honda,Acura you have to check this guy out. Sudbury Auto Care Center 978-443-2463 P.S. His shop was very clean!
  2. Thank You Blake. Do you think it is worth my time do DIY?
  3. The manual says I need to remave the lower shock bracket to remove the strutbar and from the looks I am pretty sure you do. I would need to remove the shock to get at the bracket. I am not replacing shocks so I dont have to take the shock apart. When the car is raised is the shock fully extended so when I remove it, It wont spring apart more and will it go back in without needing any compression?
  4. Thank you/ The only thing that I was a little nervous about was removing the shock. I have replaced ball joints and tie rod ends but not shocks. Is it a hard job? I have the manual.
  5. Hi, I have a 98LS400 with 73K. I got two new strutbars from park place Lexus in Tx. I was going ti install these myself but I think it may be a little beyond my skills. Do you think I will have any trouble brining the parts to a mechanic and have them install them? And how many labor hours do you think this job will take? Thanks Mark
  6. Sorry to drag this thread up, but does anyone think it is worth it to bring my 98 LS to the dealer for this throttle lag problem. I wouldn't say it is driving me crazy but it is annoying. Is there a software update like the one I read about for the newer LS's? Thanks M BTW SW03ES thank you for the info on the wood steering wheels awhile back.
  7. Thanks guys, One last question. When use my floor jack I position it behind the front wheel where the two indentations are on the underbody. I put my jack stand next to the jack but it's a tight fit. Is this the only (best place) for jack stands. Thanks
  8. Thanks, I wasn't sure if it made a difference if the wheels were hanging down or having the weight of the car on the wheels, I hope I am making my self clear because it seems that if would make a difference when working on the swaybar.
  9. I got mine from discounttoyotaparts.com. The part# is 48815-50122. About 10$ each.
  10. I an going to replace my swaybar bushings and I need to know the best way to do it. Should I just jack the car up and put it on stands or do I need ramps. Ant other tips would be appreciated. Thanks Mark BTW its a 98LS with 60K
  11. Sorry I wasnt clear It's the tie rob end where it attaches to the ball joint, I can rotate the tie rod easily with my hand and the boot has come away from where it meets the ball joint. I think ii'm getting a clunk here.
  12. Hi guys, I have been chasing noise (clunking over bumps) for some time now. I have replaced front struts and mounts and the ride is better but the noise is still there. Everyone seems to suspect strutrod cushions, but I think it might be tie rod ends and maybe ball joints. When I inspected the tie rod ends I cuould easily move the joint back and forth and I could make it make a knocking sound. Also the right tie rod end rubber boot is sepersted a little and grease is escaping. What do you think? Seems like an easy fix. I dont really know how to tell if my strutbar cushions are bad but I looked at he rubber really good and it seems to be in good condition. I have read on the sites that tie rod ends and ball joints can really effect the ride. Parts are only about $250 for both sides. Appreciate ant comments. Thanks Mark
  13. Hi ECON, Yes I was talking about the swaybar bushings and we did get off topic to the strut bar bushings. Hey MODMAN the (bushings) are called cushions on the98. Part# 48674-40051 I think they are about $40 each. They are much more diffiucult to replace because you have to remove Shock assembly, shock braket, stutbar etc. and they do need to be pressed out and in. Back to the thread topic I don't think my front ( passenger) noise is swaybar bushing related but it may. They look easy, thanks for the PDF, nc21. M<aybe lower ball joints, but I think its STRUTBAR cushions. I think the best thing to do is have a good suspention man ( or woman!) check it out for me, before I just go for the process of elimination. I am bound and determined to do some of this work myself, to save $ and my own satisfaction. Thanks for the help and please commment if you have ideas about front end noise, seems right side is common. WHEW! M
  14. Was it difficult to remove the strut bars? Don't you have to remove about everything to get to them? I will check my ball joinys tjis weehend . they look like an easy fix.
