  1. That's scary. 2 quarts low is not good. Anymore lost oil and you can throw a rod and blow your engine. It happened to me years ago on a jumker that was burning/leaking oil. Just stay on top of it until you have it checked out and find out what's going on. To save money on oil in the meantime, use a cheaper/non-synthetic oil.
  2. Look on this thread on starting/idiling probs. http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...c=30723&hl= I had this problem but it would just happen in warm weather, but not when tank was low on gas. Good luck.
  3. Sorry--last line in last comment: "idle prob for months now"

  4. I've read the reviews too and Alenza's are great tires. I have the Duelers on my RAV4 and they've gone 54k and lots of tread left. I wanted a quiet tire and the Comortreds are quiet. They've gotten mixed reviews especially with balancing issues but so far so good.

Also, thanks for instructions on taking out the IACV. Just did it the other day. I had the idle prob for onthsnow

  5. Correction:

    General Grabbers.

  6. What tires did you get for your RX300 and who installed them in the bay area?

I hated the stock GY Intregity's on my2003 RX300. Put on Good Year Grabbers and they stuck like glue but were a bit noisy. Just replaced those with GY Comfortred that I got at a GY dealer in Hayward and like them so far. Will see when it rains.

  7. Thanks Golden State--you are the man!! I just finished taking the iacv/throttle body apart and cleaned it up real good. Runs great, no leaks and I feel great saving big money. I did strip some screws and had to get a small vise-grip pliers at Sears to get them off. $12 well spent to save a couple hundred. I'll try to return the favor and help people with their problems, offer suggestions on things, etc.. I'm in no way a mechanic but will tackle stuff like this to save that $75/hr labor. Thnaks again!!
  8. I have a 2003 RX300 and I've always wanted to upgrade the stock stereo because I'm into good audio way back to the late 70's. Upgrade speakers, amp and sub and I think it will improve the whole soung at least 50%. I like the JL Audio line and $2000 will be a fair amount to spend on all the components. Maybe next year wehn I get my taxes.
  9. I'm by no means a mechanic, but I've done stuff over the years to save a few bucks. I looked online on how to replace a waterpump/timing belt and it looked too hairy for me, so I passed. I did replace a starter on my RAV4 and it wasn't too bad, and I saved big money. I also just replaced a little motor on my door lock actuator on my RX300. Took some time, it wasn't perfect, but it works and I saved big money. Years ago when I knew nothing about cars, I had a 1975 Monte Carlo I was trying to replace the fuel filter. I didn't use a back-up wrench, didn't realize I did some damage to the fuel line and almost burned my car up due to leaking fuel! IDIOT!!! I've learned, gotten better, gotten more tools and the online sites like here have saved my !Removed!.
  10. Hi, I just got small motors and I am getting ready to replace it in actuator in driver door, I am planning to follow instructions from this link: http://www.clublexus.com/forums/showthread.php?t=289839 How much difference is RX300 from GS mention in above instructions? Any tips for RX300? ********************** Pardon my descriptions of things, my DYI are always an adventure, but I've done okay over the years. No need to remove window, but the job is time consuming and a pain in the !Removed!. My job was half !Removed! but only spent $2 for the motor rather than $240, so I feel pretty good. Getting that actuator plastic casing apart is near impossible. I can see the old motor in there and so I dremeled all around the plastic to get to it--very carefully not to cut into the gears and connectors. I couldn't get the small collar (coupler?) off the new motor, and the old motor's twisty end that fits inside the small pointy gear wouldn't come off either. I just put some super glue inside the long pointy gear and put the end of the new motor in. The new motor fits snug but perfect I believe. I tested the lock and the new motor fired up. After 10-12 times, it stopped turning the gear, just spinning going no where. I took it off, cleaned glue off and put more glue in there and let it dry for 30 minutes rather than 2 minutes. It turned the gears with no probs on and off for 10 minutes. I have half the actuator exposed and pieces of old plastic not really practical to put back on. But everything was fairly intact, but when the motor is turning it wants to pop up a bit. I duck taped it and wrapped rubber bands all around the motor and it stays put. Half !Removed! like I said, but it worked!! Getting the cable back on was a pain and fitting the actuator back in the same position caused my keyless entry not to work for the day. I had to go back in the door and play around some more with it and now it's all good. I hope the glue holds up so it will keep working. Time will tell. Good luck!! Out of curiosity, why didn't you retrofit a new $10 actuator as described in the posts instead of trying to install a new motor on the existing actuator? That retrofit sounded hairy and the motor replacement looked easy, but it wasn't. I got the 5 motors off ebay for $10, and now have extras incase some more locks (motors) go bad.
  11. Oiler- I'm curious, did the same mechanic change the timing belt and water pump at 150k? Did he install a Toyota belt and pump or aftermarket? I am very impressed with the Toyota parts and would personally not use anything else myself. Especially the belts and water pump. I've used the same mechanic for all work done on the RAV4. He uses the Toyota parts, but I was bummed that the waterpump only lasted 40k. The warranty was only a year and it lasted 3 years, and the original pump was replaced after 9 years but was still okay. Wish i would of kept it in there.

  13. Ihave 94k on my 2003 Rx300 and haven't changed my timing belt. My 96 RAV4 went 150k before it broke. I replaced the waterpump at the same time. Now 3 years and 40k later, the water pump took a dump and my mechanic said that coolant got on the timing belt and it won't turn and to replace it too. Arghhh!!!
  14. I have a 2003 RX300 I bought new for about $33,400. Much haggling with the dealer (Coliseum Lexus, Oakland, CA.) and we got a decent price, trade in on an Infiniti and good interest rate. I've been pretty happy with it so far. Smooth ride, comy seats, good visibilty, decent acceleration and nice looks inside and out are the pluses. Nothing major has gone wrong, just some minor quibbles. The probs and quibbles so far after 94k: Lousy turning radius. I hear the new ones are better now. Gas mileage at best is 21-24 at the high end and much, much lower at low end. Wears out tires at 45k. First GoodYear Integrity's sucked. Replaced with General Grabber's which were super noisy. Just bought GY Confortreds, which are very quiet and should last longer. I'm having the low idle probs at start the last few months. Thanks to this site, I did the throttle body/iacv cleaning. It took awhile but problem solved and I saved a few bucks. Just replaced a little motor in the door lock actuator, thanks to some help on here and other sites. Saved big money. A few months ago, my power antenna won't go down. The motor's making the noise but it's not working. Got to price those, but not a big deal right now. So it seems like electric probs are common, but I still like the car.
  15. Are your batteries ok in the key fob? You shouldn't have to reprogram they key. My battery tester showed both batteries in fobs were good. I went to Radio Shack and they tested them and they were good. UPDATE:FOUND OUT WHATS GOING ON. I couldn't open my passenger side door with the key manually. Took everything apart on door and got door to open and then keyless entry worked! My actuator motor install wasn't completely perfect and jammed up my manual opening of the door. I'll redo everything and I should be okay.
