  1. Dealers all seem to have some kind of hearing disability. especially when it comes to creaky GS dashboards.
  2. I have bad news for you. My recently bought GS 430 seems to have the same problem. Seems like the dealer left that out in our coversations. Anyways, is seems that this is a common problem with the GS's from 06-08 possibly even 09! What's worse is that my door seems to have fallen a bit or slightly tilted? It now gets rubbed against the fender making a clicking noise everytime you open the door, where as to now, it has bugun to chip the paint. My car has 80k miles, depending on how many yours has, it could get worse if you don't get it checked, I think the door needs to be rethightend, but i'll wait and see what the dealer tell me. I'll repost later. There should definetly be a recall on this issue because it definetly is a hazard when your door tilts and air is getting throught the seals of the door... someone could possibly end up ejected, hardly, but hey? it ccould happen, Lexus should just own up, these cars are to expensive for the buying customers, specially the ones that pay with 0 milage! And it's a common problem! I get the feeling that the Dealers have just about had it with the 3rd gen GS. I've had mine in 4 times with a host of issues plus the 3 recalls. They are nice enough, because that is how lexus trains them but I'll bet they are screaming !Removed! murder at corporate for shipping this lemon down the pike. lets face it: the 3rd gen GS has more problems than any other lexus in history. this one model may well cost them a lot of future customers. I'll never get another Lexus. It's the creaky dash that just cannot be fixed that kills the whole experience. and really, it doesn't ride that well, it's not really very quiet. and the german competitors handle better and have more curbside cachet.
  3. We have the same car and had same problem. Brought the car back to dealer at least 5 times. They put rubber piping betwwen winshield and dashboard, removed side door panel and reinstalled for gap between door and dashboard, finally took the whole dash board out adjusted speaker cover, reinstalled the dashboard. Seems working now. it's more noisy when weather is cold. It's common problem and Lexus know about this. They are trying to improve since it's the first year of this body style.. i just took my 06 gs300 in for the 'dash treatment' a 2nd time. they had it a week, did Everything. (plus 3 recalls) and it is exactly a creaky as before. it's not a rattle, it's an insanely persistent creak on the left side. There is nothing they can do. If you've the creaky GS, you've the creaky gs and that is that.
  4. Ouch! I haven't been following pricing for the GS for several months now, but low $20K stings. I have a 2006 GS (which I bought used in June 2006 for about $39,000 - AWD with navi, no ML). In hindsight I certainly feel like I overpaid, but even then, I've lost almost 50% in less than 2 years. Aren't these cars supposed to be good/reasonable in terms of depreciation?! yeah i bought that same car but WITH ML and everything else (i didn't know they made any with navi but no ML) but I got mine 2 years old, in 2008, for $35,000 (see above post)
  5. Oh gee, there must be at terrible flaw in my research methodology. Perhaps you can guide me back to the right path so I won't make the same mistake next time. Let's see, I researched for 3 months every conceivable source (i.e. the web, local dealers, private party sales.) and could not find this vehicle anywhere near my ultimate purchase price. Please direct me to the sources that render my deal as "average". As to the "Deal of the century" quote, that was obvious hyperbole and was meant in jest. Don't sweat it, these forums are famous for EVERYONE saying you got ripped off, and they paid $19k for an '08 GS 460 with 9k miles loaded blah blah. No one ever beats a 'forum' deal. : I got ripped off by a long shot, having paid $35,000 a year ago for my '06 gs 300 awd with 20k mint loaded. And yes, I know your frustration, I did a ton of research looked for about a year, finally found the used one I wanted in the color/equipment/mileage etc. and I could not find that car for under $40k until i found mine a giant lease return center. Auto Lenders in Toms' River NJ. that car was over $50k in the showroom in 2006. I thought $15k off two years later was a good deal at the time. Yet I came in here and apparently everyone else has a secret link to Lexus's for half price. It IS Annoying.
  6. dang, sounds like the newer GS's can be just as bad as mine. I thought those kind of problems were isolated to the '06 models. if the economy didn't suck so badly, i'd seriously consider unloading mine and switching to a 3 series coupe.
  7. 1. It all depends on what you are looking for. The IS and GS are two different cars. Given you experience in question 6, look at an IS 250 AWD (what price is that new.) Evidentally the GS is not the AWD version. As for price, consult KBB.com or vehix.com to see what dealerships should be getting for the same car with the same options in you area. 2. It all depends on the extended warranty you intend to get, what you have to pay out of pocket, what the plan covers, what you deductable is and how well you maintain your vehicle before the warrantly goes into effect. Personally, I have no need for extended warranties. They will cost me more than I will put into the car. However, keep in mind that one pricey service after the regular warrantly expires can be the price of the entire extended warratnly plan. So the bottom line is what is it worth to you to have piece of mind. 3. It will say Mark Levinson right on the face plate around the NAV screen. 4. you can look on www.alldata.com to get a list of all TSBs that have come out. There is one major one concerning an awful noise upon cold start and there has only been one recall for a fuel rail fix. 5. I have a 2006 GS300 AWD and get about 22-23 mpg around town and I can hit 30 mpg on all out highway cruising. The ECT selector is in the normal position. Mpg will be lower if you use the Power setting. steviej Man, i wish i could get that kind of city mileage. Do you have a lot of long lights, and have to make short trips? I basically drive back and forth to work, only 10 miles round trip. I dont burn much gas total, fillup 2x per month but as i said i'm barely getting 17 mpg. My ave trip speed is about 20mph. it's painfully slow.
  8. I think you can beat them up on price, given the economy. I paid (overpaid I think) $35,500 for that exact car about 6 months ago except it was an awd. Every option except radar cruise and parking sensors. Mine had 20k on the clock. only 16k on a 2006? That is extrememly low mileage, but I wouldn't pay a penny over $30,000. You'll see other people post here that you can get that car for $25,000 or even less. I dunno, apparently some people have access to a secret supply of used GS3's that are $10,000 below Kbb. It is an AWD. I checked thier carfax and says only one owner. It did have the front and rear pads replaced and rotors cut when the dealer got it in Nov of this year. I figure the low mileage and the fact that it needed brakes front and back, means it was probably used in the city or short trips with alot of braking. My other concern was the fact that when the dealer got it in November, they replaced both the front pads and rear pads and resurfaced all the rotors and installed two new tires. The car only has 16,000 miles on it and it leads me to beleive it was probably used for local driving or city driving since all the brakes at to be replaced at such low mileage. I checked their carfax and it shows one owner, leased and only had the routine maintenace done each year. Also, I had my rear rotors resurfaced under warranty, at about 23k. I have 25.5k on it now. It's a pretty heavy car, which i think tends to cause early rotor warp. I wish i had a GS 350 rear wheel drive. But in the Northeastern corridor, most of them are awd. my tires are General UHP, non original. I think most people replace the horrible OEM Dunlop runflats, because they are noisy, make the ride stiff, and don't stick well. So dont worry about tire replacement, be glad the runflats are gone. btw, i have several irritating creaks squeaks rattles etc that do not belong in what was a $50,000 car 2 years ago. I've bitched about it here a lot. Dealer just says, 'we've done everything we can'. I did have the right a pillar clonk fixed. but i think it's back. You really hear them moving slowly around town. It's very frustrating, one of the reasons I went with Lexus was to avoid those kinds of problems, because i really hate that in a car. It's a good highway car, very quiet, and you dont hear the rattles. overall though, after 6 months, i have to say the GS kind of underwhelms. Things I like best: Styling. I dont think the motoring press gave Lexus Nearly enough credit here. This is a very, very elegant swoopy looking car inside and out. I get compliments all the time. I think it's 100% better looking than the M, the 5, the RL, the A 6 and the Cadillac STX. I like the engine / 6 speed auto trans combo. It is silky smooth, no matter what the conditions. I can get over 30 mpg highway, but in the most brutal city conditions, (long lights, endless stop and go) I'm honestly at 16.5. Which sucks, I See 430/460 owners claiming 20 around town. I may as well have gone for the V8. Also, 258 hp is 50 hp shy of where it should be. You would do well to find an 07 350, but i saw in consumer reports that the 07 350 awd had a poor reliablity record. The nav/ML are very nicely executed, would not be the same car without them. But dislikes are pretty strong, and they grow more annoying each time I drive it. The aforementioned rattles. The lack of power, there is a moderately musty smell when the A/C has not been run, the climate control takes 3 clicks more than you need to adjust, the hidden buttons in the pod are gimmicky and it gets old having to open the little door every time. There's not a lot of passenger room, but i can livewith that, I wanted a good looking car, and so I pay the price. mostly if it didn't rattle, I would be a lot happier with it.
  9. I think you can beat them up on price, given the economy. I paid (overpaid I think) $35,500 for that exact car about 6 months ago except it was an awd. 10. Rattles, squeaks, creaks, knocks it's maddening. totally unacceptable for a $50,000 'luxury' car. I'm ready to trade mine in, no matter how much I lose.
  11. well, no matter what you paid, everyone here will say you got ripped off.
  12. the current gen GS is a gorgeous but deeply flawed machine. It should ride smoother, have no rattles/squeeks, have better steering, and be faster (the 300 anyway). Also, around town, my mileage has been 16.5 lately, and that's with a gs300. I may as well have a gs460.
  13. In may '08 i got an '06 GS 300 awd with everything except radar cruise and park sensors. 20k miles, showroom condition. I probably overpaid - $35,500. Now it rattles more than a rental hyundai, (of course it was dead silent on the extensive test drive) and I'm going try once again to get a dealer to fix it next weekend.
  14. yeah good luck with the mb. I just hope you dont run into major repair hassles like it seems the German brands have been experiencing. a rattle free car isn't much good if it's at the dealer every other week. and when the warranty runs out, $$$$ out of pocket.
  15. I recently bought an 06 GS430. I did a 1500 mile trip and had a hard time getting more than 26mpg on the highway. Wondering how you achieve 27 or 28. I ran 35psi in tires and left the cruise on. I averaged 74mph on the highway. Around town I am getting 20-21 and 19 driving fast. well, i'm even worse shape, with a dog-slow gs 300 awd, that is struggling to make 18mpg on my current commute. It is very short, and I have about 13 stoplights, all of which are infuriatingly long. i spend more time idling and accelerating from a dead stop to about 30-50 mph over and over. I may as well have gotten a gs 430 or new 460. Doesnt sound like the worst condition mileage is tht much worse. i can get over 30 mpg on the open road if I keep it under 65 and use the cruise. but there's so much traffic that you constantly have to brake and accelerate.
