  1. I found a used one from e-bay "Germany" of all places. I haven't installed it yet but hopefully all goes well when I do. If not I'll let you know. Thanks for the reply!
  2. Hi All, I need an airbag module for a 2001 GS300...Part # 89170-30360 Can anybody give me a lead on where the best place to get one for the best price. Thanks in advance!!

  4. I can get you a factory replacement LCD for your Pioneer headunit if you want to go that route. dcfish, Same problem here. Can you send me the information for the replacements LCD? Thanks. What year and model ? PM or EM me WOW!....lots of people seem to have this LCD problem. The display on my 2001 GS300 Pioneer unit just has dimmed on one side so I assume that one of my backlights are out. I haven’t seen anything in this form about just replacing the backlights. Is this possible?.....has anyone done it? DCfish, can you please e-mail me the LCD replacement info in case I have to go that route. I’d also be interested in adding the MP3 Player connection if possible. Thanks parseeker_16@hotmail.com
  5. Well first the good news….yesterday I played at the same golf course I played at about a month ago when I lost my spare. I checked in the pro shop and VOILA! someone had found my key and turned it in, so now I have a spare. Txateer, I was about to order from sparekeys.com but the price on the web site said $109.95! How did you get one for $19.95? For the record I checked www.sewellpartsonline.com and they wanted $185 plus $65 to ship to Canada! (I think it weighs about 5 ounces)
  6. I recently lost the spare key for my 2001 GS300 and the "stealership" wants $360 PLUS programming fee for a replacement. I have searched this forum for the best place to buy a new one but all the info appears dated. Has anyone ordered a replacement recently? I still have a master so I would like one that is cut and I could program myself. Any leads on a good place online to buy would be greatly appreciated!
  7. That repair cannot be done “properly” for $250. Spend the money and get it done right and you’ll be happier in the long run. I had rear door dent/scratch and rear quarter panel “ding” repaired on my 2001 GS300 a year or so ago. Most independent body shops quoted me from 1000-1200 bucks. I got the name of a guy with a professional home shop who said he does work for about 60% of what most body shops charge. I was confident in this guy as he does body work at a local GM dealer during the day. He did a great job and the final cost was $700. I was worried about color matching too but he uses a computerized mixing system that matches your color from the manufacturer's paint code stamped on your car. He says that any “reputable” shop will be using this system. He also blended into the front door, rear quarter panel and partially into the roof and then clear-coated the entire area. This guy is located in Whitby, ON and I can give you his name if you want but the savings may not be worth the inconvenience of coming out from Mississauga and leaving your car for a few days. If you can’t find an independent guy I would use a reputable shop and make sure they are doing a proper repair. I would think you would pay upwards of $1000 for a good job but in the end the extra bucks are worth it.
  8. I just changed the oil on my 2001 GS300 and could not find the torque value on the drain plug. I just read somewhere that it is 33 ft/lbs, which seems high to me (I'd hate to strip it). Can anybody confirm the torque setting?
  9. I just had mine changed on my 2001 GS300 at 190K Kms which is about 120K miles and the belt looked fine. I wouldn't worry too much about a few thousand extra miles but as others have said there are no guarantees and the cosequences are HUGE.
  10. I got a quote from an independent Lexus mechanic for around $1000 to replace timing belt, water pump, cam seals, crank seal and idler bearing. Lexus quoted $990 "without" the waterpump. The local Toyota dealership said they would replace the timing belt for $375 and inspect the other parts and only replace if required. Does anybody have an opinion on NOT changing the waterpump and seals if they seem to be fine. Is the waterpump prone to failure? Does anybody have a high mileage GS300 with the original waterpump? My GS300 is a 2001 and has 190K kms (118k miles).
  11. So I guess mine is kind of normal and I have tried the "chin trick" and it does seem to work. My wife has a Sienna and like the 4runner the remote for that has a long range also. Thanks for the responses.
  12. The "key-mounted" remote for my 2001 GS300 has a very limited range. It barely works from inside my front door to the driveway which is only about 30ft away. It does have a new battery so that's not it. Does anybody else have this problem and is there any way to boost the range?
  13. Ill be changing the center caps for sure. I paid $450 for all 4....so it was a cheap pick up. I dont mind the stock GS wheels but mine are chrome which im not a huge fan of. Ill see how they look on the car & if they dont blend well im sure i could sell em. Regards. Those are nice wheels and a great price too. I believe the bolt pattern will be the same but the centre bore for Infiniti is typically larger (66.1 vs 60.1mm) so you may need an adaptor ring. Would I need to purchase this adaptor ring or would any shop I have mount & balance my tires & wheels have them at hand? Thanks! I wouldn't say "any" shop would have them. I'd call ahead to make sure.

  15. I have a 2001 GS300 with 180,000 kms and I just switched to synthetic. I went with Castrol Syntec 0W30, which is the "German Syntec" so it is fully synthetic. Canadian Tire had on sale here for $6.56 a litre so it wasn't much more than conventional, especially if you change it yourself. The local Toyota dealership charges $90+ tax for a synthetic oil change and they use Mobil 1. I also went with the NAPA Gold filter which is made by WIX and is apparently a quality filter. Six litres of oil (it takes 5.4), $10 for the filter and $2 to dispose of the old oil and I'm done for under 60 bucks. My GS has no leaks and doesn't burn any oil so I had no qualms about going with the 0W30. Haven't noticed any difference in performance as some people claim (not sure how they could notice any small difference it could make) and the car runs at about the same temperature as before. My main reason for the switch is I feel the synthetic will be a little better for our cold Canadian winters and should allow for better lubrication for those cold starts. I'll probably not go much longer between changes but may go to the 8000 kms "normal service" change as opposed to the 5000 km "rough service" interval that I have always went with in the past.
