  1. I had trac light coming on intermittently, Lexus Dealer said it was sensor(?). Spent about $400.00 to have it fixed. That was a year ago. It is now doing the same again. I'm going to check the fuse, as recommended in another post, and get new brake pads. Also. turn off the tracking as soon as I get in the car.
  2. 92 White Pearl LS400 78.000 miles. Purchased 4 years ago with 60K. Just put on snow tires, this car is great but deadly in snow.
  3. The speedometer dial arm on my 92 LS400 is patialy blacked out. Only about a third from center is lit. I was wondering if just this part could be replaced. Does it mean its going to die completely. Do you have to change the whole instument cluster to fix this? If the later is the case, I will live with it as I use a Garmin navigation system that actually has a good speedometer (only visible in map mode, not when navigating). Thanks, Bob
  4. Hi, I have only posted a couple of times. I usualy look for a thread that addesses my questions. Always find them. But, I love these boards. Z~ :)
  5. Hi, I have 92 LS with 61,000 miles. Everything seems to be in mint condition, outside of clunking suspension on front right wheel. This car had not been seen by Lexis service since 92. The previous owner told me he had a new a/c compressor put in. When I speed up, I hear a whining when the a/c is on. It seems to normalize when the speed stays constant. The sound worries me so much, that I am reluctant to run the a/c. Could this be the timing belt I hear about, or maybe it was installed badly? Wondering if I am worrying over nothing?
  6. Wow! This place is amazing for great info. The more I look at those instructions, the more I think its not sticking so bad... I think I will take it in and have it done. It realy isn't that bad, but I am so crazy about this car, I want everyting to be perfect on it. I may try the lithium grease first myself and see how that goes. I will let you know how it goes. If that doesn't solve it, then I will bring it in. Even if I don't do the work myself, it makes such a difference to know exactly what needs to be done. Thanks a lot. Robert
  7. Hi, I have a great 92 LS 400 that I love. I am willing to try do-it-yourself maintenance on miner stuff, but I'm not sure what to do. My gas pedal sticks so that the engine jumps when I press on the gas. Is there a simple method to make this smooth again? PS, I think this board adds a lot of value to a Lexus. Thanks
  8. Hi, First I want to thank everyone who has helped me already. I have noticed a radiator (looks like) symbol light up on panel when I start the car in cold weather, then it disapears after a few minutes. Is this because engine is cold? or should I have someone look at the radiator? Also, the gas pedal is sticky, and it makes engine jump a lttle when I press and it finally moves. Can I oil the pedal or something to make it smooth again? Lastly, I was hearing a low wining sound the other day when ever I axcelerated(spelling?) I was realy worried that something was wrong, then I turned off A/C and it disapeared Is this normal. Thanks, Robert
  9. I am answering my own question. Replacing battery in remote key 92 LS400: Use a mini philips and remove single screw. With mini flat screwdriver evenly pry open all around key handle so it pops open and doesn't break. Bend back small metal clamp just enough to remove battery. Replace with a Lithium CR1220 available at RadioShack for $2.99 + tax. Put it back together and your key is good for several more years. The original Battery is a Panasonic 3V # BR1216 But this is not in replacement catalogs, so maybe Lexus has an exclusive on it so they can help themselves to your wallet. The Lithium CR1220 is identical in every way, but does not list the BR1216 as a replacement. It took me ten minutes and I now have a fresh remote key.
  10. These boards are great! I just bought a 1992 LS 400 with only 60,000 miles. I have not seen any others listed with under 100K...and they still run great. I paid $5,800 and am the 3rd owner. It was first owned by the CEO of a Japanese company who was chaufered everywhere, but wanted his own car anyway. Itr was then boaught by another Japanese exec, here in the US on rotation. That was 1998 and it only had 20,000 miles. I went to Lexus dealer for service history, and the last time it was in Lexus shop was 1993? The man I got it from had to return to Japan, so he didn't have time to put it on the market. Everything works. Pearl White ( I will take new pictures, 1 I posted came out like a billboard it was so big) Leather heated seats. Moon Roof Traction control Nakamichi stereo & 6 CD changer Heated Mirrors, Seat memory, etc. people who see it think its a new car. The only things that I notice are the gas pedal is kind of sticky on acceleration, and I do hear a crunching/clunking noise from the front passenger side on large bumps and dips. I did that little test mentioned on these boards for shocks. Pushed down on each fender and they just come right up. no bounce. I plan on keeping this car for a very long time, so I will keep it in shape. However, I plan on finding a regular mechanic or shop familiar with lexus, rather than a Lexus dealer. I can't afford their kinds of pricing. Plus I think they look for problems that may not exist. I had a friend who did the gold plate on Toyota & lexus emlems. She charges the dealers $75.00 per job. Toyota dealer billed customers $300. Lexus billed customers $500 <_< From all I have read here, I think I got a great deal. :)
  11. I have a related question: Just got 92 LS 400 with 2 remote keys. One works, the other doesn't. Can you change the battery in these keys? I see it has one small philips screw on key handle. Also, is there an alarm system attached to this setup? I see a security light on dash, but the car makes no noise or beep when remote key is used.
  12. Hi, Thanks for the tip. You are correct. The light dimmer only works when the headlights are on. I guess that makes sense, daylight would have brightest panel.
  13. Yeah, sorry the picture is so big. I have to get the hang of it here. I tried to put in size, but it didn't take. I will make the source photo smaller. Anyway, I will have make much better pictures now.
  14. Hi Everyone, I am new to this board, and am also a new Lexus owner. I just purchased a 1992 LS 400. It has 60,121 miles. Pearl White, Leather heated seats, Moon Roof, Nakamich with 6 CD changer and I guess all the options. This car looks and feels loke a new car. I love it. :) As far as I can tell, everything works. Since I got it though, it seems the brightness switch for the panel lights is no longer working. It is locked on brightest. I can live with that. This is the first car I ever owned. I always leased new Toyota Camry's, or other new cars. So I'm a little shaky about a 12 year old car. But I plan on keeping this car a long time. I just hope I won't have to start shelling out for repairs too soon. I look forward to learning from all the experienced Lexus owners here, that may give me an edge as a non-mechanic. Robert
