  1. I have an '07 RX350 that had a rattle coming from the back, sounded like the roof rack, or maybe from under the car. I found it to be the two little tabs near the hatch opening that lock the cover in place when it's pulled to the back. I pushed these two tabs down and forward, without the cover in place and the rattle is gone--Great! no trip to the dealer.
  2. In the future for small dings you can buy one of these touch-up pens. They work very well. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...T&viewitem=
  3. I agree to get it fixed right. If you have Comprehensive Insurance coverage on your car--you'll pay only the deductible. I had the same thing happen with my Porsche Boxster. Five days old, still had the paper plate on it, "keying" was over the back fender, down the door and up onto the front fender. $2,600 later ($100 for me) it was repainted perfectly. I still see no difference in color after 7 years.
  4. When the "Check Engine" light comes on, it often causes panic--"Ohmygod my engine is about to quit--or something worse". It's not that the Engine is going to quit, it's some malfuntion in the emission control system. If the problem happens only once (say a spark-plug missfires), then after about 3-cycles of starting and driving the car, the light will go out automatically, as it did when the gas-cap was tightened correctly. So before you panic, just drive the car for a little while and see if the light goes out--if not then get it diagnosed. Nothing critical will happen in the meantime.
  5. Ah, NO! Let's not call it a complaint, let's just call it somewhat laughable for a company that has prided itself on the "Relentless Pursuit of Perfection" for the RX they have been building for 10-years. It's especially laughable when some of the "features" that are missing, were present in several cars back in the mid-'90s. I didn't dig into the Navigation Manual in sufficient detail before I bought the car to realize I could not get an Altitude readout from the GPS, nor did I realize that the Trip Odometer in the Nav System would re-set to Zero, everytime I turned the key off--Stupid but not a deal breaker. I don't need an "infinitly adjustable" seat heater that I can't adjust with my gloves on--a Low,High and Off on a toggle switch is all I need. I got a touring package, on my AWD RX, which I would probably be driving in the snow, but have no Side-view mirror heaters--I had that on my '97 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The arm rests are too low for me, some vehicles have an adjustment knob to set them at a comfortable height. I have a BMW RT motorcycle, and the original-equipment seat is very uncomfortable--is that a deal-killer? Of course not, but more than 1/2 the people that buy the RT buy an aftermarket seat. I still maintain that for a Vehicle that comes from the "Perfection Company" the RX falls short.
  6. I just got a new 09 rx and find the nav system extremely confusing. The CD with the car didn't really explain how to store and retrieve address, among other basics. I'd used Garmin before and found it very easy. Do you have any information to help? I didn't see replies to your email topic. Capguy I have the same opinion of the Nav in our '07 RX. We have two Garmins and I'd much rather use them than the onboard system (wife loves the rearview camera, though). We recently assked the dealer about an update and were told we should wait as there is a new update coming out that will be a major improvement (but of course it will about $250). I don't know what's in the update but I seriously doubt that it will be worth that price. See my "Pursuit of Perfection" gripes above. And I'll add another one, I also like the "rear-view camera", however, when I'm trying to maneuver to connect a trailer to the trailer hitch, it would be very handy to have an "over-ride" so I can leave the camera on when I shift into Drive as I maneuver. Also, I agree the GPS Nav system is way more difficult to use than it needs to be. Garmin is sooooo user friendly, and the Lexus Nav System requires I keep referrng to the Manual--which isn't all that easy to understand either.
  7. After nearly 10 years of building the RX you'd think Lexus would have gotten a few details right. For example, I have heated seats with a rotating knob to set the temperature--the knob pushes In/Out, to get it out of the way I guess?? but out of the way of what, I don't know. Once I have it set the knob near where I'd like it, wouldn't you think I could just push the button to turn it off/on, rather than rotating the knob to turn off the switch. And then next time to rotate the knob back to the heating position I want? Another gripe has to do with my GPS Nav system. When accessing the trip computer I can select the "Trip Mileage". Who would think that on a trip, every time you shut the car off, to go for lunch or get gas or whatever, you would want to have the "trip computer" automatically reset to Zero--now that one is really dumb! Any other "Perfection" gripes out there?
  8. This may sound strange, but I pass it on for your consideration. I had the same kind of "peeling" on my Porsche inside-door "leather". Turns out that it was Sun-tan lotion I had on my arms that was getting onto the arm rest and causing the peeling.
  9. Yup, dead in 3-days, that's absurd. A car battery should have a capacity of about 60 Amp-hours. To drain it completly in 3-days, indicates that current is being drawn from the battery at a rate of about 1-amp (and the battery would be dead in about 60 hours). So disconnect either lead from your battery and put an ammeter from the battery terminal to the lead, and measure the current draw--make sure all doors are closed and all lights are off. Current draw should measure a few milli-amps--just to keep alive various computer functions and the clock in the car. This will give a clear indication that something is wrong with your electrical system. (If you want a comparison, just check the current draw on your other car). Now you have a good basis to go argue with your dealer. If you can't make these measurements--then have your dealer do it.
  10. I have an '07 RX, and it's not at all obvious to me, how I do this. Can anyone tell me how to remove these cross bars--I don't use the top rack and these bars sometime rattle, and also cause me to use just a little more gas. Thanks
  11. I got my wife the RX350 because most of her "Tennis Buds" have one. It's Flint Mica (so that's a manly color) but the interior is light grey (which makes it more girly). I only drive it when she is in the car with me--the License Plate is LT KNTR (Lake Tahoe Knitter), so when I drive and she knits, I make her hold her knitting up high so other drivers can see it's not me! :-}
  12. I tried to get onto lexuspartsonline.com but was unable to get it to search for the part. Anyway, I found the hitch--including the wiring harness--on this site http://lexus.dealerfit.com/store/lexus-rx-...rod397_3259.php for a little over $300. Did your $212 price include the wiring harness? Probably not since it's about an $80 extra.
  13. I have an '07 -350 and an '03 MDX. The MDX is excellent and I find it more comfortable than the RX. Don't pass up a test drive in the MDX, you'll be impressed.
  14. I recently bought an '07 RX-350 which I really like. In '03 I bought an '03 Acura MDX. I really, really like that SUV--it's bigger than the Lexus and very comfortable. So my suggestion would be to look at the new MDX, it's really excellent.
