  1. Sorry for the delayed response on the resolution of this issue, that’s because there really isn't a true resolution and I was hoping to be able to post one. I took the car back to the Lexus dealership and they had only seen this issue one other time and from the sounds of it didn't have a reason why it occurred then either. After talking to the Service Advisor who talked to a number of individuals within Lexus, nothing could really be pin-pointed other than I was sitting on an incline and potentially the added force on the roof from the incline added to the speed of the roof reclining back causing the off track message and the damage to the roof. Because this is so rare there was no way of really knowing for sure. The Dealership repaired the roof and it looks as good as new. So if any lessons learned can be weaned from this experience it is always try to be on a level flat surface when opening the top of your Lexus convertible.
  2. Hoping to get some feedback. Just purchased a brand new IS 350c from the Lexus Dealership. Brought the car home everything was great drove it for a few days, then yesterday afternoon was backing out of the garage on a bit of an incline, after I backed out of the garage I stopped still on a slight incline and opened the roof to enjoy a beautiful afternoon drive with the top down. Much to my surprise with about 10% left to complete the roof opening, it stopped and displayed a message "Off Track". I was sort of in shock to see that pop up so I reversed the switch to close the roof and nothing happened, same message. So after trying both switch positions to open and close the roof, I finally turned the car off waited and then turned it back on. At this point I tried to close the roof and it finally receded down into the trunk and closed ok. I then closed the roof and re-opened and it all seemed fine. Drove it around that afternoon, opened/closed at the restaurant that evening with no problems. This morning I went to get in the car for work and opened the garage door before getting in and the Sun light helped me discover the Top of the Drivers side has a dent in it and the metal beam for the window support has a even bigger dent in it. My heart just about stop beating, and my stomach turned sick, my brand new car has dents in the roof. After calming down and rationalizing everything I remembered the off track issue. So I opened the roof as normal and started looking and sure enough where the smaller dent is it is hitting the hard molded piece of the retracted window and the large indention was not hitting it but was very close to the trunk riser section and had it gone another half inch it would be hitting it in the same spot. So I’m pretty sure this has caused the dents, but I'm very confused why I received the off track message to begin with other than the car was sitting on a bit of an incline, but I wouldn't think that should be enough to throw the mechanics of the roof off. I have called my Dealership and they said they have never heard of that happening but to bring the car in so I am taking it this afternoon when I get off work. I wanted to post this in hopes to see if anyone else has had this sort of issue and to hopefully help the next person if they do.
  3. First let me thank this forum for providing very helpful feedback on purchasing an extended warranty. I'm a proud owner of Lexus LS460 and wanted to make sure I was going to be covered for at least the next 3-4 years after the original manufactures warranty ran out. So I started with the obvious and ask my local Lexus dealership to quote me on the 6/100K and 7/100K warranties. Let's just say that their prices were not in my ballpark or even in the ballpark two states over, :( they were very proud of their warranties, which is to be expected. That's when I turned to the Lexus Owners Club forum to seek advice, boy did I get a lot, very good Pro's and Con's of purchasing an extended warranty. The feedback was very helpful and certainly helped me to make an informed decision I feel. Now comes the good part, if you're looking to purchase an extended warranty don't bother trying to go directly to your local dealership because they will sell you a much higher extended warranty. I took the advice from several posters in the forum and contacted Toby Rivers to quote me on a new Lexus Manufactures Warranty. Folks he will save you a bunch of money, Toby sells the same warranty you can get through your local dealership at a substantially reduced price. I just purchased the Platinum 6yr/100,000 mile extended warranty through Toby and he not only got me into the ballpark but gave me prices below my expectations. Toby was easy to work with and answered all my questions. THANKS TOBY!!! Toby's Email address is : TobyToyota@aol.com 1-800-335-3987
  4. :D I am all smiles today. I am very happy to tell everyone that at least for the 1997 - 1999 ES 300 models the FCC ID "doesn't " matter. My owners manual I had listed the FCC ID of MOZ RI-4ATY, but all the FOB's on E-Bay had the FCC ID of HYQ1512P. In talking to Lexus customer support they said that it didn't matter on the 97' - 99' model years. I took the chance and ordered one for $19 off of E-bay with the HYQ1512P FCC ID and using the programming instructions I recevied mckeeney(Thank You) I was able to successfully program it to work the first time. All 4 buttons work, the only thing I wish is that when you lock the car it would make a sound. Does anyone know if there is a way using the exisiting system to make the car make a noise when locked? Oh well I guess I can't be to picky I just save about $180 and didn't even go to Geico...
  5. Yes I went ahead and purchased a remote off E-bay with that FCC ID. If you could forward me the re-programming instructions that would help. I will let the forum know if I am successful in reprogramming a new remote with a different FCC ID. Thanks
  6. Does anyone know if this really matters when buying a replacement FOB. I have been told that the FCC ID doesn't matter for 97 - 99 ES300 models by Lexus customer service. But every remote I see on E-Bay states that the FCC ID must match to what you previously had. Hoping someone could shed some light on this for me. I'm not looking forward to paying over $200 for a replacement if I don't have too. Thanks
  7. Hello all, I am new 1999 Lexus ES 300 owner. The car didn't come with a keyless remote, only one key to start the car. I have searched E-bay for a replacement FOB and have found plenty but with a different FCC ID than what my owners manual has listed MOZ RI-4ATY. I have tried to find out if the FCC ID really does matter or not when it come to buying a replacement. I contacted a guy at the Keylessentry.com who will sell me an OEM version for $90 but said that he has never heard of having to insure it has the same FCC ID. I can buy a remote FOB for my year Lexus all day long for about $25 off of E-bay and then program myself if I have to. I have been reading all day the different posting and haven't seen this question ask, so I'm hoping some can answer my question do I have to be concerned with the FCC ID when buying a replacement FOB. Thanks
