  1. I purchased my 1998 SL400 struts from Parts Avenue on Ebay. Very good price, work great, and easy to install.
  2. Can someone post the procedure for replacing the low beam HID headlamp bulbs on a 98 LS400? Thanks in advance!!
  3. Is there anyway to test the ballast before I buy the bulbs. I don't have any experience troubleshooting HID lights.
  4. Is there a place better than another to buy replacement headlamp bulbs. I have one light that comes on but goes out after 30 seconds or so. I have been told that you should replace both right and left bulbs to avoid one light appearing different than the other. If that is the case I am looking for a place to buy a pair of bulbs hopefully at a reduced cost. AutoZone wants $130 a piece or $260 for both plus tax.
  5. It sounds like a good price for that year unless there is an issue with the mileage. It could have been a mistake when the service was documented but who knows. If the car has been taken care of and serviced and you continue to do the same you can expect to get 250 - 300k miles out of it. When that car sold new the sticker probably upwards around $60k. You should consider that if you don't keep the car the carfax issue will cost you on the re-sale price when you get ready to sell.
  6. Thanks and I really appreciate the help. My Mom is really sick and I need to go and see her tomorrow before I do anything else. I will get on the repair as soon as I can hopefully late tomorrow or at least in a couple of days.
  7. If you wait you will have to replace the sensor as it will wear though the wire in the sensor. I don't want to do that. Where is the sensor wire located at on the brakes?
  8. My wife just returned home with the car and said the brake pad indicator light went out a few minutes after it came on. I suspect that it will come back in a day or two after more braking and stopping.
  9. The brake wear instrument panel light came on today on my 97 LS400. Does anyone know how long I have to replace the pads. I don't want to wait but I might have to wait a couple of days till this weekend if possible. Also is there a rule of thumb in the appearance of the rotors to warrant replacing them too?
  10. Mobil 1 Synthetic and filter for every oil change and never had a problem. 1997 LS400 turned 200k yesterday. Interesting fact is the alternator went out within 50 miles of officially hitting 200,000.
  11. Unfortunately I can't supply the details on the power steering screen but I had an instructor at AT&T that had that problem on his 97. He found a retired Lexus mechanic that repaired it and he said it was the first problem like that he had seen. I have the email address for the car owner that had the problem. If you send me your email address I will send it to him. He is a really nice guy and shouldn't have a problem explaining what he did to his for the repair.
  12. Thanks guys I just had a chance to follow back up. I will give it a try this weekend and let you know how it goes. :)
  13. Can someone help me understand the procedures to replace the right rear stop light bulb on a 1997 LS 400. I have looked in my truck and the area behind the stop light appears to be fairly complex to remove. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
  14. They are a pain to change. You have to remove the headlight assembly from the car to get to the bulb. It can be done but it is a little involved. There are some posts on the forum to help with the process.
  15. Thanks for the information. I am almost afraid of the aftermarket part. I would hate to jeopardize the quality of the car but at the same time I hate to pay 400 - 500 $'s.
