  1. Greetings Earthlings! I'm still driving my 1992 LS400 daily driver who's 30th birthday is fast approaching. I need help in trying to figure out how to get a better brake pedal. I have printed out the "How to" here on bleeding the brakes and have bled the brakes twice with no good results. The pedal goes nearly to the floor. My car is currently in a mechanical shop with a really good mechanic, and they too, have "power flushed" the brake system 2 times and still the pedal is near the floor. Does anybody here know the secret to getting a better/higher brake pedal. All replies are much appreciated with Lexus love!
  2. After driving my car for 15 years I have finally found the "SHIFT LOCK OVERRIDE" button just to the left of the shifter. As I press the button, the shifter easily goes into gear. Can somebody tell me what the fix is so that I do not have to press the "SHIFT LOCK OVERRIDE" button every time I shift into gear. THANK YOU!
  3. Greetings Lexus lovers: Recently my 1992 LS400 shifter handle doesn't want to come out of park. With my foot on the brake and my thumb on the shifter button, it still won't move out of park. It happened 2 times in the last month and I am now afraid to drive my favorite car because am afraid of getting stranded and needing a tow. To the person that knows how to fix the problem, kindly take a minute or two and assist me and I will happily send you a $20 or a great big thank you!
  4. To Whom It May Concern, and to Any and All: It concerns my 1992 Lexus LS 400, Burgundy with gold letters, LS 400 on right rear trunk lid too, cool wheels, cold air, new tune-up, radio w/CD-DVD player. "I be lookin' so good if I left my home in the North Georgia Mountains and went to Atlanta I'd get carjacked for certain!" But, since I'm an old "duck", I enjoy driving it to Wal-Stuff and back. The Problem: When I press on the brake pedal, the headlights "dim slightly" and a "click" is heard coming from under the shift console. Wife says she wants to take shift console apart and find the problem. So I thought..."I'll help her", by asking..."YOU" first! Thanks in advance Everybody.
  5. 1992 Lexus LS400 climate control unit became defective, burned a diode on the inside circuit board. See my poorly addressed post entitled: Old Man Needs Help Heater Control Unit Had a very good experience buying a newly re-conditioned climate control module from Tanin Auto Electronix at 262-456-4147 located at 7012 Highway 31, Suite 100 Racine, Wisconsin 53402 spoke with Meredith Albrecht she sent it to me $204.98 took 3 days UPS ground. She asked me if I wanted special lighting, they specialize in 1990 to present customized gauge clusters and speedometers, climate control units, Stepper Motors, lights bulbs, LEDs, digital clocks, overhead compass, odometer correction and gauge cluster programming (whatever that is)...they can do custom color LED conversions for your inside gauge lights. Really cool...but I did decide to go with the original light bulbs that came with the car. Thanks to Tanin Auto Electronix and my wife who pulled and replaced the module!
  6. PROBLEM FIXED. 2/16/2017 1992 LS400 My climate control module went bad. A diode was burned on the inside circuit board. Wife took the shift panel off first, then worked her way up the center dash and took out the climate control module with ease (God I love her). Called TANIN AUTO ELECTRONIX at 262-456-4147 located at 7012 Highway 31, Suite 100 in Racine, Wisconsin 53402 and spoke with Meredith Albrecht. She sent me a new re-conditioned module for $204.98 came in 3 days by UPS ground. She also asked me if I would like "brighter" or "colored" lights in the unit, rather than the original lights that came with the car. I did opt for the original bulbs, but I understand that they specialize in 1990-to present, customized gauge clusters, speedometers, climate control units, and custom LED different color conversions, stepper Motors, digital clock, overhead compass, odometer correction and gauge cluster programming. Wife plugged the unit in, it worked fine, then wife commenced to put the center dash back together which included the new re-conditioned climate control module AND a new radio with a USB Drive/CD/DVD player which has a big screen (God I love her!)
  7. Thank you for stopping and maybe you can help me with my 1992 Lexus LS400. It was cold, so I turned the heat all the way up and pressed the high fan button. Worked good. When I went to shut it off, NOTHING. I smelled something burning. Only way to shut off the heater and fan is to turn off the car, or pull the 15 amp fuse associated with the heater. Took the climate control unit heat/air out, opened up the box and found a diode burnt, a little round thing with a wire on each end attached to the circuit board. Bought a unit online reconditioned with new bulbs for the date/.time/temp and when plugged in, the date comes on, then fades away in 5 seconds. No other lights or any buttons on the unit works. Plugged in my old unit and the heater blows hot air on high fan, but the off button does not work, nor any other buttons. Called the place where I bought the reconditioned unit and told them I think the unit they sent is bad. They said, no, the unit was good and that since the date comes on and fades away, I need to change the heater blower resistor. Anyone out there ever dealt with this issue???
  8. Oh...Billy D, enjoyed the car slide show.
  9. BillyDPowell and Exhaustgases thank you for your replies. Well fella's, the issue is resolved to the tune of $1000.00 I bought the 1992 Lexus LS400 12 years ago from a North Georgia mountain Baptist preacher/ace mechanic who said, "This is the car for you Wussy. Drive it for the weekend", and he handed me the keys. I've owned about 10-15 cars in my lifetime, several new, but had never driven a car as smooth and pleasurable as the LS400. The following Monday I bought the car from the preacher for $5000. Since that time, outside of tires, brakes, one alternator, an $800 country boy pro paint job, and last year $500 for a complete tune-up, water pump, timing belt, idlers, etc, I haven't spent much money on the car over 12 years. So, I spent $400 for the air conditioner kit, and had a Chrysler dealer in Blue Ridgeperform the work for $600. Blowing cold and good to go for another 80,000 miles. Best dang car I've ever owned! And fella's, hang in there, because I'll be back asking for advice in the future. Thanks again, long life, good health to all.
  10. Thanks Washington Bob for your reply. The second video you posted did want you intended it to do...scare me! I'm baffled that I've been unable to find anything on the internet on how to replace the expansion valve. Luckily I'm in no hurry.
  11. Gents/Ladies?: The AC compressor in my beautiful burgandy 1992 LS400 puked, so I purchased an entire AC Kit which includes the compressor, drier, expansion device, oil, o-rings, and system flush. My "ACE" mechanic who has kept me going for the last 12 years has cancer/surgery, and I can't ask him to help me anymore. He tells me that since the compressor puked, the entire system needs to be flushed and parts replaced. He said most mechanical shops will not change the AC Expansion device which is located in a difficult space inside the firewall below the glove box, and if they don't replace the expansion device, that any trash or pieces of metal shavings left in the old expansion device will destroy the new compressor in weeks. He said that the area where the expansion device is located is filled with wires and connections and that if the new mechanic I find to repair the system isn't top flight and know's what he is doing, all of the car's wiring could be compromised, thus ruining the car. I've had 4 quotes on replacing the system, $300, $390, $500 and $700, but none of these mechanic's have ever done a 1992 Lexus LS400. So my question to the group is...DOES ANYONE HAVE THE DIRECTIONS, OR KNOW WHERE TO FIND THE DIRECTIONS, IN REPLACING THE AC EXPANSION DEVICE ON A 1992 LEXUS LS400?
  12. Dear Civilized People, I say that because if you drive a Lexus you gotta' be civilized! Anyway...I need 1992 Ls400 Vol.1 and Vol.2 Repair Manuals. Is there somewhere on this site I can find them? Or somewhere on the web that's free?
  13. KEEP IT! Your luxury car sold for $50,000 twenty years ago. It sold for that much because it was/is the best vehicle ever built. My mechanic...a pro...says that the engine is one of the most well balanced engines ever built, and can easily get 500,000 miles if maintained. I purchased my 1992 from my mechanic in 2002 it was 10 years old for $5000. When I asked..."what do I need to do to it?"...he said..."drive it". I did. In 10 years since, all I replaced was an alternator, and front brakes a few times. It has just gotten out of the shop after having "everything" replaced for a little over $1500...I'm good to go for another 100,000 miles. You'll miss the comfortable ride and the power available at the touch of the gas pedal. The worst thing I've found about owning a beautiful Lexus Ls400...is finding parking spots where hilldillies in their $100 junkers won't park next to me and ding up my baby! KEEP IT!
  14. Yo Panthean... Listen to fsuguy and landar...their replies save lexusownersclub members lot's of money and time. They have for me! Take your alternator to NAPA and have em' rework it. It'll cost ya' anywhere from (I'm guessing) $25 to $60?
