  1. Did several searches but couldn't up with any references to a free update. It's going in again tomorrow and I wanted to try to bring this up with them since we've nagged about it in the past to no avail, but this time hopefully with reference to a tsb. Any help appreciated. Thanks, JJ
  2. OK - figured it out. There was another post about these hacks and it said to press the Override button for 5 seconds - bingo. That was it and works every time now!!!
  3. Print the PDF of the technical service bulletin, take it in to the Dealer, and ask them to explain the situation to you again aboiut how it cannot be done.
  4. Actually, I had a Lexus Survey in the past year or so that asked a bunch of questions about the buying and ordering experience. They asked about special orders and wondered what additional wait times would be tolerable and what the reaction was to paying a premium for the privilege. Maybe this only applied to our vehicle as it is made in Canada and in a newer and more flexible facility, but i got the impression that they were definatly looking at the idea. :)
  5. That's an easy question to answer --> probably 75% of the population and raods in Canada are closer to you in San Fran than Hawaii is, and you can actually drive to Canada but you cannot drive to Hawaii!!! :)
  6. Perhaps something obvious? Are you sure that it is reading in Imperial (miles per gallon) and not Metric (kilometers per litre)??
  7. You can either have new payments or ongoing repairs and restoration. With the list of "issues" or at least "about to be issues" that you made, you're looking at having to spend hundreds more over the next two or three years as more and more components wear out or break down.....may not be such a bad thing to put your $1,000 down on something newer, with less miles, and with less issues. Sure it's a Lexus and all, but it's 16 years old and has a whack of miles on it and chances are more bills are on the horizon. Take the car to a mechanic for an evaluation and an estimate and you'll have a clearer picture of the car's condition and expected repair/restoration costs. Then you'd be in a better position to judge the trade-offs.
  8. Sounds like the dealer missed setting the car up properly on delivery. You can fix the sunroof just like the windows by "normalizing" it, this should clear up the "confused" open & tilt buttons. I think that you use the Open-Close button to open the sunroof all of the way, but continue holding the botton for 3 seconds. If this doesn't re-set it then you'll have to check the manual as maybe I remembered it wrong.
  9. Even in Canadian dollars that's a pretty high quote. The Black Book in Canada would is $12,450 to $14,650. They are likely leaving no room for negotiation on the new purchase and are just looking to suck you into the sales floor so that they can lay on the pressure.....
  10. I was on a plant tour in Cambridge (Ontario, Canada) where they build the RX line on one side of the plant and some Toyota models on the other side. Indeed, actual manufacture time is not the issue, I think it is just a matter of hours with a new RX rolling off the line like every 3 miutes or less. Rather, they need lead time to put your specific requests into the system. Then once built, they sit at the factory while shipping is arranged, then in transit it may sit while transportation modes are shifted ie from ship to rail to truck, etc. and there well may be several days sitting around inbetween modes. Added up together, it can easily stretch into weeks.
  11. Well, in part it depends on what kind of vehicle you were stuck with. Different makes/models use different systems and approaches to how AWD works.
  12. Just wondering about who else has any pet peeves about their Lexus and how they cope with them or even better, if there is a way to fix them please share. This isn't meant to get into issues or problems, just those little things that bug you or make you ask "why did they do it that way...." Here are mine (2004 RX330): 1. "Lawyer Screen" on nav system and passenger cannot operate with car in motion. (I know there's a few hacks around but none seem to address the lawyer screen). 2. Power Window Override for driver -- in other cars (Volvo, VW, Ford, GM, Chrysler) the similar switch is used to prevent kids in the back from operating the windows, but the driver can still operate all windows. Some cars it's the two backs + the one front, but they all allow the driver to defeat the override and maintain window control. Not so my Lexus - with their switch all the windos are locked out for the passengers AND the driver (except the driver's of course). Drives me nuts in our house because when I drive I often with no kids and let the windows down while my wife often has the kids and wants the windows locked out. The results in constant bickering similar to the toilet seat up or down issue if one of us forgets to leave the setting conveniently set for the other's preference. Then when we're all in the car and are going to make a compromise and let the kids have their windows part way down - you have to un-lock the window and then quickly get it partially opened and then re-lock it out before the 5 yr old gets his hands on the switch and causes a stalemate!!! In other cars we just set the switch and the kids are locked out + driver gets full control + no issues with driver A vs driver B. 3. Cruise Control only has "partial" memory --> cruise on a highway, drop speed, hit resume and go back to where you were. No problem until you drop down in speed below it's lower limit or come to a stop - even if you get back up to highway speed the system has forgotten it's setting. Now you have to re-set a new cruise point. Other cars don't allow you to operate cruise under the lower limit but they keep the set point in memory so that you can hit resume when you get back up to the operating range. Frustrating with Lexus that such a simple thing is not done well. Any other ideas on how to fix these peeves? Anybody else have others?
  13. Spoke too soon - seems to be picky. The next few times trying it, I can get all the way to the secret menu but the Override button won't recognize when pressed. The other buttons are OK, just the Override doesn't seem to work. Any other get the same r know of what might be wrong?
