  1. I cleaned mine with about 200K on the clock, I clean it constantly actually. I can't stand a dirty motor and it makes it hard to work on! Look it may be a little vulnerable because of some dry rotted parts but those connections are still water tight when they fasten together. If you don't want to use water fine but even with then if you just use a cleaner and a rag, is it going to fade your plastics under the hood? I know I use simple green lots of rags and a regular water hose with no nozzle, I have used a low pressure nozzle on a pressure washer as well with no ill effects. As far as the dealer knowing what parts not to get wet because they know so much about it....yeah haha don't bring it to them.
  2. yeah i did one of those and it doesn't do anything at all really, put mine on for an hour and flushed it then cycled it in reverse to clean cylinder heads and and plugs etc. and nope nothing no change and i still had a stall problem.....fault was a weak fuel pump the whole time, that and my head is just worn out changed that stuff and voila ran like new.
  3. yeah i agree that the car is probably tuned to it's best abilities as far as the gear ratios go but i still don't think that it is too heavy for the motor, that thing pulls a lot harder than most motors of it's kind and seems to be intended to do that. could be the actual engineering of the motor itself that makes it so powerful and HP just equals more gas spent. add a SMALL turbo system and i bet you do pick up about 4-6 mpg though, but you would probably be better off getting a different car than spending that kind of dough. my 94 ls400 gets 25 mpg any day of the week and sometimes better, i am thinking about putting it up for grabs down the road though....
  4. i had bird *BLEEP* that sat for a while without me noticing and it ate the clear coat, the base is just fine as far as pigment goes, really wierd
  5. i am really truely the first person to turn the other cheek but i have been in extereme situations plenty of times and i can't really say that i would go out of the way to hurt the guy but i could still easily shoot him without the slightest bit of remorse, but all in all life or death that doesn't say much about how a person should treat another person, just let it go it's just a car i mean after all, if you were broke you wouldn't dirve, if you were missing a leg, you wouldn't walk, if you were dead you couldn't live.....sad things happen like mischeif gone wrong and the like but remember if it doesn't kill you don't worry about it, because it's not a big deal. or here is another point of view, if you give this guy a hard time, mess with him or something, he might get even more extreme and mess your car up worse, and then you'll prolly hurt him and you'll be the one going to jail....so don't stoop to their level, just take a little pride in the fact that that guy probably doesn't even have a car much less a lexus....and that is what this site is all about, a lexus right?
  6. monarch always kills the joy......just kidding buddy
  7. hey i am having the same problems with my seat belts so let me know what you come up with, i thought about replacing them but i figured it really isn't too big of deal yet as they do retract and hold some tension. but it's important enough to be concerned about a fix in the future
  8. no the 97 will fit as long as it is a 1uz-fe but you'll have to unplug all your emissions and a few other things to fit.....like blake said the electronics are drastically different but that shouldn't matter if you are replacing the engine(pistons, block, heads, crank) basically 90-97 is the same acessories, brakcets, fuel system, manifold starter etc, the thing to do is to just pull the old block and just transfer everything to the new one as you take stuff off, don't forget to put in some new seals and timing belt to make life a little easier! blake is right about ebay too, not a high demand motor to replace so you can find some that are pretty fresh for a good price....personally if you can score one for 500-800 that is awesome! if you are a speed freak do a google search for the guy that put a 2gt-jze (i think that is it) supra turbo motor in his.....really really not something i would want to ever try to think about doing....it would make my head spin
  9. i would take off my ground wire and clean up the connection there use sand paper to take off paint etc. i have done a high output amp on my truck just recently (60 amp to 130amp) and it helps but what you might have to do is bring it to an alternator shop and get it rebuilt to do that but usually you can only jump up about 30 amps or so like that all that aside....... go buy a 1 farad capacitor and pop that in there. that it was did the most for my system it really cleaned up the sound especially on the bottom end where voltage drops alot, usually only cost about 150-200 just make sure you ground it seperatly from where the amp is grounded you can also get a .5 farad capacitor cheaper but i'm guessing you are running a high power system?
  10. yeah i second the gernerous first time offer that lexus has for replacing keys, but to get by he could at least jump the switch like mentioned......the other option is, and i'm serious here is to get a stong key ring and d clip that has a tiny reel on it, i personally would hate to get caught dead wearing someething like this on my belt loop but i have locked my keys in the trunk twice also, fortunatly for me i still had the lockout key.....whew but if i could avoid spending some serious jack i would just really figure out a way to keep up with that key or in vest in a set of encrypted remote door and trunk poppers cause it's cool and still cheaper than if lex makes you pay for a new set of keys, and then buy an extra remote that stays locked up in my house somewhere, oh well that's kind of out there but i'd run with that key for a bit and save myself the distress of fooling with lex corporate
  11. I understand all of the things you guys have said about small and big buisnesses but i have had such horrible luck with my mechanics, five in my town and they all have ripped me off.....just this weekend i took my valve cover off to change the gasket that the mechanic had messed up when he changed the head on my ford. I should have done it myself but i was pressed for time and space. Needless to say he put the valve cover on and hit one of the rocker arms in the process knocking the gasket off and just bolted it down...i actually had a bead of silicone stuck to the rocker arm towards the rear, come on RTV inside my motor!! I could list some of my other experiences but needless to say the small mechanic shops have ripped me off every single time i have brought them my vehicles and when i get it back i ask a few questions about the work, go home, check it out and find something that they have messed up! Okay now the real complaint i can't find a local mechanic who will even take my car to work on it!! Every single mechanic says, no i don't want to work on it. Even my friend's shop (who claims to be a high performace shop but works on the most horrible excuses for vehciles) won't take my car. Doing the work myself wouldn't bother me as i could take my time but now i can't afford the time so i have to get someone to do the work for me. I'm just complaining because it seems like the only place i could think about taking my car is to a dealer because if i don't like something (like an oil leak) when i get it back the mechanic won't look at me and go "i dunno" and walk off. Sad thing is i'm very polite to them, i even give them a hand sometimes when i stop by their shops!!! So i think they know i won't get upset. My 2 cents, i wish could find some of your guys' local mechanics!
  12. WHEW good response jainla! hey don't put in a meter though (it'll take away from the look of the car) just tell them that they need to fill it up before you drop them somewhere, when they realize your car only takes premium, they'll stop asking for a ride!!
  13. guys you think it could be a bearing, carrier, or axle problem? that's a little out there speaking you guys have these blue pads, ever think about going with a high pro pad for the rear just to experiment? Really shouldn't make much difference because i mean you got OEM and they didn't squeak in reverse off the assembly line, so i would do a little research and find out exactly WHAT company is making these pads for Toyota, because i am pretty sure they don't manufacture them for themselves, but rather contract them out, and possibly the pads that are made avaiblible and not installed on their cars are most likey a different specification.....my 2 cents fellas
  14. not to be a smart @$$ but hey forget it, after all the trouble those things have given you just take them all the way off the car including the rotors and calipers and use the emergency brake and downshift to slow down........you'll get a cardiovascular work out from your heart jumping through your throat when someone slams on the brakes and when some one asks you why you took them off give them a mumbo jumbo answer like well see the weight of the car divided by horsepower equals X so when i took the brake system off i lost X in wieght so technically i picked up X amount of horsepower with 4-6lbs equaling a theoretical 1HP, that will definitly shock them, maybe they'll do it too and when they rear end you, you can get a new car out of it!!!! Just a joke, but seriously i hope you can get that damn car to do what you want!!! Hey pay a LS430 twenty bucks to whip its butt for talking dirty to you while you reversed out of the drive way....sorry man i'm no help!! SOMEONE HELP THIS MAN!!!!
  15. srk : yeah man that'd be great if you get the chance to post up some pics! alright i definitly agree with most of the peeves about this car.....to me the biggest peeve is the car's biggest thing going for it, the ride the ride is what makes the car so great but when the smallest vibration shows it kills the confidence in the car and between the drive shaft coupling, finiky braking system and the suspension's complexity (even non air systems) it's hard to pin point the fault of the system and then sometimes the bushing or relaited parts can be a pain especially with the difficulty of getting to them(motor mounts) i guess i am preaching to the choir..... and i definitly agree about the ergonomics of the car, just so damn small....nuff said not really much to say but if anyone has suggestions on some of the problems people say they have with their cars, go ahead and post up links to other threads or bits of advice in response, could turn out to be a long thread, maybe, but then there are records that will never be broken......i think i figured it out (the wobble problem)
