  1. Is that red stripe part of the tire? I think if they had more of a lip they would look better on the car... but with all those spokes, have fun cleaning those things...
  2. I don't think it could be modified to accept a double DIN head unit (easily). The top edge of the upper opening probably isn't high enough on the bracket to allow a double DIN HU to fit if the bottom portion was cut out. That kit might be a good start to fabricate what you need though since it includes internal brackets.
  3. What kills me is those dorks on two guys garage actually endorse that thing!
  4. Congrats on the new ride - post up some pics! I'm sure everyone on here will say you might the right decision. I'm also sure that if you posted this question on a M-B forum, they probably hate you by now. <_<
  5. Thanks for getting back to me. So you're saying my '99 has 4 piston calipers from the factory? That's pretty sweet! I thought I was hot-$hit when I installed some PBR dual piston calipers from a Mustang GT on my '96 T-bird. :D Those with the Power Stop rotors worked pretty well.... Those rims look great - I see you did something to the exhaust as well. Nice! Do you have a slight tint on your windows also? Thanks in advance.....
  6. I've done my fair share of brake jobs, but since my LS is new to me I haven't had the need to do these. Couple of questions from an LS newbie if you don't mind: -There are separate brake shoes on the back for the parking brake? Is it like a drum brake inside the hub of the rotor? -Your front calipers are aftermarket right? I have the same wheels on my '99 and haven't really looked at my calipers. Are the OEM ones just a single piston or maybe a dual piston (both pushing from the back)? Great job - now you need different wheels to show off those slick rotors/calipers!
  7. The 4Runner is a decent vehicle, but that previous generation one was horribly underpowered. A friend of mine had it after owning a lemon of a Chevy Blazer. The vehicle never gave him one problem but he found that he had to really keep that engine gassed to keep it moving. Sounds like not enough power for the amount of weight that truck is. The Tahoe will definitely not have that issue as I know they have like 5.7L or 5.3L (depending on model year) V8s.... but will most likely be a rattle trap in a few years. I'm sure the Tahoe can tow more, if that's what you're after. Neither of them seem that "cheap" to me just because of the crappy mileage they'll get.
  8. If you're talking about the factory installed Navigation, it may be possible but be prepared to shell out some big cash. At least a couple grand for parts/labor I bet.
  9. Did you get new shims or are you reusing the old ones?
  10. Odds are they probably won't have the parts you need on hand, but they will be able to order them. Expect to pay a few bucks per screw, bolt, etc.. though. If they aren't visable once the car is back together, just go the hardware store like branshew said. A dremel comes in handy to shorten screws that you find but are too long. Good luck.....
  11. In Illinois, I'm not sure if there is a limit on the darkness of the tint, but I do know you're not allowed to have ANY tint on the front door windows or on the windshield. I've seen many cars with tint on the front side windows though. My friend used to be pulled over all the time for it - he finally had it lightened (still not legal) so he doesn't get hassled. It's one of those things that a cop would write you up for if you were pulled over for something else. In Illinois there aren't yearly inspections of your cars for noise or tint or anything. They only test for emissions every couple of years in certain counties (mostly near Chicago).
  12. I've tried several different brands of wiper blades before - and I'm talking about the ones found at the various auto parts stores, not the premium ones that are $30/40 each. And since I've only had my LS for a few months, this is from use on other vehicles. I've found that most work really well initially - it's a matter of how long they last. I remember the Bosch micro edge working very well, but just didn't hold up as long as the Anco Aerovantage blades. I'm super picky when it comes to wiper blades so I replace mine about every 6 months. If they start to streak and can't be cleaned - they get pitched. On my LS, it had some crap, worn out aftermarket blades on there when I got it so I bit the bullet and purchased the Lexus brand blades. I heard they were the way to go especially since refills were so cheap. So far so good. What I'd really like to hear is an update a few months down the road to see how those Icon wipers are holding up. If they truely are that good, I'd have no prob spending the extra $$. Keep in mind my wipers have to withstand the freezing winters of the Midwest unlike some of you west coast folks. :P Thanks for the info on the Icons though - I might have to check them out, at least for my wife's vehicle.
  13. Wow - only 100k miles on your 93? That's pretty low mileage for that year of car.. I take you don't have the owners manuals or maintenance guides? Those should list all the things that need to be checked with the appropriate mileage intervals. Your best bet would be eBay for something like that.
  14. Sweet! Glad to hear you got it out with that tool! I think Sears is supposed to have a sale on that tool on Saturday (at least around here) for like $9.99. Might have to pick one up... I was going to say if that bolt out didn't work, to take a socket nearest that size and pound it on what was left of the bolt head. Nice job man!
