  1. Thanks for the suggestion. I guess I'll just have to call around to find a shop who has that, right?
  2. All that was done last August.
  3. Seems my 91 LS400 is a little confused these days. I pulled the codes and got 25 (air-fuel ratio lean), 26 (air-fuel ratio rich), and 55. Last year, I was informed (by a Lexus dealer) that the 55 was a knock sensor and that it didn't really need to be replaced. Since then, the CEL has come and gone. A few weeks ago, I pulled codes and got 25 and 55. I was told that the 25 was probably indicative of an O2 sensor, so I've been trying to find someone who can tell me which one(s). The other night, it started driving really rough (jerking) on the way home from work. When I got home, I checked the codes again and it had added 26 to the mix. It has been reset a couple of times and seems the 26 (along with the jerking) only happens when I drive this one route which has a fairly steep hill. I took it in to the shop today to see if the scanner would give a bit more info to go on. The mechanic was stumped. He said he thinks it is either the MAF or the computer itself is going to hell. Has anyone else experienced the conflicting codes (rich *and* lean)?? Any suggestions? BTW...what's the code for POS?
  4. Funny. I guess practice does make (almost) perfect! At least it wasn't another Opal....I remember driving an hour and a half to get from Destin to FWB back then. :P Anyway...back to why I found the forum... I just bought this LS400 from my boss 2 weeks ago. I have a 92 Blazer and it's had it's share of minor issues...then the heater core blew. So that coupled with the AC leak makes for a miserable drive. Anyway, 3 days after buying the Lexus, the check engine light came on.....stopped for something to drink and when I started it back up, the light didn't come back on. 4 days later it did the same thing. So, first thing I did was check the air filter....OMG! It looked like there was a dead animal stuck in it! Replaced the filter, and the light hasn't come on for a week now. I was getting pretty poor gas mileage, so I took it to the shop down from where I work to check the plugs. They said it needed a "major tune up", but then again, they also said I needed a new air filter....so I don't even know if they checked anything! So....I took my estimate to my buddy at Auto Zone and he just about wet his pants! He printed up the recommended parts and referred me to his mechanic. Another guy in the store (who has the diagnostics tool) suggested running some Lucas treatment thru the tank. WOW! I went over 50 miles before the needle even came off of the full mark! So, I'm guessing I need to get the code cleared and see if anything happens again with the check engine light. Just need to find the right adapter for this guy's Actron CP9150.... Guess I need to sell the Blazer to have maintenance $$ for this baby! Really sad, because I still love my Blazer and I hate the idea of putting my dogs on leather! Ahhhhh....the sacrifice!
  5. Thanks for the reply. I'm still waiting to see if my guy with the code reader can come up with anything. Unfortunately, he doesn't have the plug needed to run the diagnostics on my car, but he's trying to find one. I just pulled the code with the paper clip method. BTW....I see you're in FWB....I called that place home for a while. How long to fix 98 across Okaloosa Island this time? LOL Seemed like forever when Opal washed it out....
  6. Anyone know of a good Lexus mechanic in the Nashville Metro area? Everywhere I've checked with so far has insane prices (like today a place quoted $54 just for the labor for replacing the air filter! I did it myself in 5 minutes for $18! They wanted $80 for spark plugs that are $3 at Auto Zone....etc). Just looking to find someone competent who isn't out to take my whole paycheck!
  7. OK....so I have the code and what it is....now what?! A guy I ran into up at Auto Zone said there's a "plug" on the block on the lower right (facing from the front) side that's probably loose. He also says he has a computer to hook the car up to and check everything out. Anyone with experience with this code?
  8. The dash lights are always fine. Even the console's upper panel is okay (aside from the typical blacked-out LCD)....just the radio lights. Also, just curious...why is it that the LCD is clear as can be when it's hot and blacked out when it's cool? When I went to get the air filter this morning, the associate at the auto parts store called one of her mechanic buddies about checking the codes. He said I'd have to bring it in while the check engine light is on - that the computer doesn't store the codes....???? Huh?! I thought they were stored until deleted or whatever....
  9. I just bought a 1991 LS400 with 136k miles from my boss last week. My 92 Blazer blew and I needed something quick, so I jumped on the deal for $5k. So, a few days after I bought it, I noticed the lights for the stereo buttons started to flicker, then went out. They came back a few minutes later and did the same thing. What would be causing this? Now, the lights are off the majority of the time...they do come back occasionally though. Also, on Monday and today, my "check engine" light has come on. Each time, it doesn't come back on after shutting the car off and starting back up. (Let me go ahead and tell you....I know nothing about cars!) So, I checked with Firestone and they want $100 to run the diagnostics. I decided to pass and see what else I could find! When I got home, I took out the air filter and it was massively clogged! I beat it against the side of the house and plan to buy a new one in the morning. Question is, would that be a possible cause of the warning light coming on? I've asked my boss about both of these things, and she swears neither ever came up on her. She had the car 2.5 years and only drove it a couple of days a week and always did the scheduled maint. on it.... Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
